Athletics is one of the highly anticipated events today, with Vietnam participating in the women's triple jump, 4x400m medley relay, mixed 200m, and mixed 5,000m events.
In the women's 5,000m event, Nguyen Thi Oanh and Le Thi Tuyet achieved a double victory for Vietnamese athletics. From the very first laps, the two athletes quickly took the lead and maintained a safe distance from the other groups.
Throughout the race, Nguyen Thi Oanh proactively ran behind her teammate Le Thi Tuyet to maintain the pace. Entering the final lap, the "queen of athletics" accelerated strongly, surging ahead and crossing the finish line first with a time of 16'26''06. Le Thi Tuyet finished second with a time of 16'34''06, winning the silver medal.
This victory earned Nguyen Thi Oanh her first gold medal at the 33rd SEA Games, and also brought her total number of SEA Games gold medals in her career to 13.

Following their success, in the mixed 4x400m relay, athletes Ta Ngoc Tuong, Nguyen Thi Ngoc, Le Ngoc Phuc, and Nguyen Thi Hang delivered an impressive performance, winning the gold medal for Vietnamese athletics with a time of 3'15''07. Thailand finished second with 3'16''56 and the Philippines with 3'27''22.

In the men's 5,000m event, Vietnam had two representatives competing: Nguyen Trung Cuong and Le Tien Long. Nguyen Trung Cuong maintained his strategy of staying close to the leading group and only accelerating in the final lap; however, he could not overtake his Thai opponent in the sprint and finished in 4th place. Le Tien Long also failed to make it into the medal group.
In the women's 200m event, Le Thi Cam Tu competed valiantly and won the silver medal with a time of 23''14. The gold medal went to Veronica Shanti (Singapore) with a time of 23''05. In the men's 200m event, Ngan Ngoc Nghia did not win a medal.
Earlier, in the women's triple jump final, Vu Thi Ngoc Ha won the bronze medal with a performance of 13.68m, while Nguyen Thi Huong finished fourth with 13.57m. The gold medal went to an Indonesian athlete, and the silver medal to an athlete from Thailand.

Concluding the day's competition, the Vietnamese athletics team impressively won a total of 2 gold medals, 2 silver medals, and 1 bronze medal after 6 final events. This achievement further affirms the pivotal role of athletics in the Vietnamese Sports Delegation's journey to conquer medals at the 33rd SEA Games.
