Not a remake, “Mang me di bo” was developed entirely from the original script, with Korean filmmakers painstakingly researching and drawing inspiration from the people, lifestyle, and culture of Vietnam. From the original purpose, the crew wanted to create a Vietnamese-Korean cooperative film that was close and friendly to Vietnamese audiences in particular and the world in general.

Director Mo Hong-jin shared: “After releasing the film “The Last Wish of a Prisoner 2037” in 2022, I came to Vietnam for the first time in November and started to have feelings for this country. As a lover of family films, I wanted to tell a warm and humane story in Vietnam. In addition, I felt that the culture of this country was developing very strongly and I also wanted to accompany that flow.”
Regarding the impressive title of the film, the production unit said that the name “Mang me di bo” represents the psychological conflict between love and responsibility of a child in the process of taking care of an old mother. The film’s name contributes to strongly impacting the audience’s psychology, arousing curiosity about the character’s final decision and raising the question: “When love becomes a burden, what will you decide?”.
The film features talented actors from two countries. Among them, actresses Hong Dao and Tuan Tran reunite as mother and son after the film “Mai” - the highest-grossing film in Vietnam to date with 520 billion VND.
“Muse” Juliet Bao Ngoc will pair up with Korean male “star” Jung Il-woo. This male actor is affectionately called “Vietnamese son-in-law” by Vietnamese audiences after a series of hit films: “Family is Number 1”, “49 Days”, “Moon Embracing the Sun”… In particular, after a trip across Vietnam that caused a stir on social networks in mid-2024, the name of the male “star” is known to more and more Vietnamese audiences.
“Mang me di bo” is scheduled to premiere on August 1, 2025 in Vietnam, promising to bring impressive cinematic experiences to the audience.
