Continuously detecting and seizing counterfeit and poor quality goods
According to the report from the Steering Committee 389 of Hanoi City, in May 2025, the whole city discovered and handled 444 cases of smuggling, trade fraud and production and trading of counterfeit goods. Notably, the case of dismantling a fake functional food production line with a scale of up to 77 billion VND was investigated by the Hanoi City Police.
Implementing Plan No. 146/KH-UBND dated May 27, 2025 of the Hanoi People's Committee, departments, branches and functional forces have simultaneously launched a special task force to monitor and inspect key items such as medicine, milk, food, functional foods and electronics.
In addition, the City also tightened e-commerce management and strictly handled cases of taking advantage of social networks to trade in smuggled and counterfeit goods. E-commerce platforms and livestream sales platforms were all included in the list of key inspections.
Typically, on May 28, the Hanoi Market Management Department inspected a business location at 64 Hang Giay Street (Hoan Kiem District). At the time of the inspection, Thang Pham Law Firm and Associates (representing cosmetic brands Lancome, YSL, Giorgio Armani, Hermes...) said that through preliminary inspection, it was found that the owner was selling perfumes that were counterfeiting the trademarks of major brands.
Previously, on May 16, the Economic Police Department, Hanoi City Police successfully dismantled a group producing and trading counterfeit food, medical equipment led by Pham Ngoc Tien and his wife Doan Thi Nguyet (address No. 1, LK 11, Xa La Urban Area, Phuc La Ward, Ha Dong District), seizing over 100 tons of fake pharmaceuticals and functional foods...
Information from the City Steering Committee 389 shows that although the authorities have actively inspected and controlled the market, smuggling, production and trading of counterfeit and poor quality goods, and infringement of intellectual property rights... are still complicated and pose many unpredictable risks.
Strong direction, comprehensive inspection
According to Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade Nguyen Kieu Oanh, implementing Directive No. 13/CT-TTg dated May 17, 2025 and Official Dispatch No. 65/CD-TTg dated May 15, 2025 of the Prime Minister , Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade has directed market management forces to continue to do a good job of reviewing, inspecting, and controlling the area, not allowing businesses, transporting, and storing prohibited goods, smuggled goods, counterfeit goods, goods of unknown origin, and goods that do not ensure quality; resolutely and strictly handle organizations and individuals who commit acts of smuggling, trade fraud, and counterfeit goods.
Protecting consumer rights is not only an urgent task but also a long-term one. In the coming time, the Department will continue to strengthen state management in this field, directing market management forces to strengthen market inspection and control.
At the same time, continue to implement major topics such as "Month of action for food safety", control of craft villages producing confectionery during the Mid-Autumn Festival...
A representative of the Hanoi Market Management Department said that there are currently many types of goods suspected of counterfeiting Vietnamese brands on the market. This affects not only Vietnamese businesses, but also the general policy of the State when implementing the program "Vietnamese people give priority to using Vietnamese goods".
Market management forces have been proactively grasping the situation, identifying routes, locations, subjects, and key groups of goods, coordinating inspection, control, and prevention of smuggling, trade fraud, and counterfeit goods...
Faced with the reality that many influential people on social networks participate in advertising, livestreaming, and marketing products but are not responsible for product quality, the Department of Market Management recommends that in the coming time, there should be regulations on the responsibilities of these people in the process of promoting products.
At the same time, e-commerce platforms and social networks must commit to not allowing the trading of counterfeit goods, banned goods, or goods of unknown origin...
Recently, at a working session with the Steering Committee 389 of Hanoi City, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan emphasized that Hanoi has no "no-go zones" in handling counterfeit and smuggled goods. If violations occur in any locality, that locality must be responsible to the City's leaders and the Government.
This commitment shows strong political determination from the central to local levels in cleaning up the market, protecting the rights of consumers and honest businesses.
Along with professional measures, Hanoi City has stepped up propaganda to the people and businesses about the harmful effects of counterfeit and fake goods. Authorities have encouraged people to participate in reporting violations, thereby creating a "soft barrier" to support effective market control.
This peak campaign is a clear demonstration of Hanoi’s determination to protect a transparent and healthy business environment. In the coming time, the City will continue to maintain regular inspection activities, ensuring that violations that have been handled do not recur…
