The U.S. has not identified who is suspected of carrying out the attacks on al-Asad and al-Harir air bases in Iraq.

But Washington is heightened its vigilance regarding the activities of Iranian-backed groups as regional tensions increase due to the impact of the Israel-Hamas war.
Two U.S. officials said the initial attack on the al-Asad base in the early morning of October 18 involved two drones. One of the drones was intercepted but still exploded, causing minor injuries and damaging some equipment. One official said several U.S. soldiers were being evaluated for possible traumatic brain injuries.
According to sources, the second drone attack targeted the al-Harir air base, where US forces are stationed in the northern Iraqi city of Erbil.
Iraq's semi-autonomous Kurdistan regional security agency said the armed drone involved in the second incident crashed in a desert area near the village of Batas in the Harir district at 12:18 p.m., without providing further details.
A little-known armed group called Tashkil al-Waritheen has claimed responsibility for the attack in al-Harir.
Last week, Iraqi armed groups linked to Iran threatened to attack U.S. interests with missiles and drones if Washington intervened to support Israel against Hamas in Gaza.
