3-year journey to make the impossible come true

Most of the integrated washer-dryers on the market today often use condensation drying technology, allowing steam to condense in a separate compartment, solving the problem of hot air escaping for the machine. However, this technology also has the disadvantage of consuming a lot of electricity, and low efficiency when applied to models that also have washing functions.

To solve this problem, Samsung spent 3 years of research (twice the time it takes to develop a normal product) to find a new design and exclusive technology for the Samsung Bespoke AI Heatpump integrated washer-dryer. This is a rare time for an integrated washer-dryer to apply heatpump drying technology, separating moisture from clothes and using that dry air source to circulate and dry clothes, saving energy and maintaining a drying temperature that is not too high.

“We literally overhauled everything,” said Park Jong-won, Director of the Washing Machine Module Lab at the DA Division of Samsung Electronics Suwon Digital City. “Not a single component was used from existing products, including the floor panels and the interior and exterior. As a result, we developed our own unique structure that no other company could replicate and received a core patent.”

In terms of design, to overcome the unhygienic factor on the device while still ensuring drying performance, Samsung has developed an integrated air flow structure in the washing drum, adding a “direct energy automatic cleaning” function. The compressor is placed on top and the detergent sprayer is placed below. In addition, the heat pump technology, now upgraded with a hybrid heat pump module, maintains drying performance no less than a standalone dryer, even in low temperature and humidity conditions.

As a result, the Samsung Bespoke AI Heatpump has a washing performance equivalent to a 25kg horizontal drum washing machine and a large drying capacity of up to 15kg of clothes with a super-fast washing and drying time of only 98 minutes.

The washing and drying experience on the Samsung Bespoke AI Heatpump is even more superior with the presence of AI. The artificial intelligence on the device is a testament to the vision of “AI for all: Connectivity in the age of AI” announced by Samsung at CES 2024. Samsung engineers bought countless different clothes to build a big data model, helping the machine’s AI recognize differences in weather, fabric, and washing habits of different countries, thereby optimizing the washing and drying cycle.

Optimize AI power, create a "queen" laundry experience

Samsung has brought innovations that make the role of AI on Samsung Bespoke AI Heatpump even more evident, in addition to taking on a few simple functions like in other products.

First is the superior ability of AI Wash & Dry, using sensors to determine weight, dirt, fabric type... to suggest the optimal washing cycle. In addition, AI continuously learns, accumulates washing habits and considers factors such as the day of the week, weather to give the most accurate cycle. With an efficient performance algorithm, AI Wash & Dry helps reduce energy consumption by 40%. This number can be increased through AI saving mode, which saves up to 60% of electricity when washing and 30% when drying.

For the first time, users will have a 7-inch display called AI Home on the Samsung Bespoke AI Heatpump. This display not only provides AI instructions but also allows for timers, weather checks, internet access, and connectivity between multiple smart devices through SmartThings, acting as a hub to seamlessly extend the experience beyond a single device. Of course, SmartThings also allows users to remotely control their laundry from their phone, even when they are away from home.

Leading the new era of laundry

With groundbreaking innovations in the market, Samsung Bespoke AI Heatpump has recorded impressive sales. In Korea, 1,000 products were sold in the first 3 days and has now reached sales of 3,000 devices. Building on the success, Samsung continues to launch products in many other markets, including Vietnam.

Sharing about product positioning and segmentation, a Samsung representative said: “The Bespoke AI Heatpump integrated washer-dryer is a premium product, providing additional options for users in addition to standalone washers and dryers. This is the perfect choice for busy users, large families and those who love a minimalist lifestyle. The company is currently planning to launch more versions in the future.”

The product is considered the first step to open the era of future laundry, where user experience is comprehensively upgraded with AI and new technologies.
