People's Artist Lan Huong made an appointment with a group of Dan Tri reporters at her home on Tay Son Street, Hanoi , just a few days before the new year. When we arrived, she was busy cooking for her family.
From 5am, artist Lan Huong woke up to prepare breakfast for the whole family, so that she could go to the market and buy food for the Tet holidays.
Every year, the actress of the movie Living with Mother-in-law would prepare Chung cake at home. This year, she and other artists such as Tra My, Vo Hoai Nam, Nguyet Hang, Anh Tuan... wrapped the cake last week at Tra My's house. Meritorious Artist Do Ky, People's Artist Lan Huong's husband, joked that this Tet, they will be more relaxed...
After breakfast, People's Artist Lan Huong prepares medicine for her mother before going to the flower market. Her mother is 92 years old and has lived with her husband for nearly 40 years. No matter how busy she is, she and her husband still try to come home to have dinner with her mother.
At 9am, she and her husband left home. They traveled by motorbike to Nhat Tan peach garden. Lan Huong said that every year she went to Quang Ba flower market and entered Nhat Tan peach garden. In addition to admiring the beautiful flowers, she and her husband also hand-picked the peach branches and kumquat trees they liked best in the garden.
The day before Tet, the road was quite crowded, so it took Lan Huong and her husband more than an hour to arrive at the peach garden. Lan Huong said, when Tet comes, her family usually has 2-3 peach trees in the house to make the atmosphere of welcoming the new spring complete and full.
People's Artist Lan Huong said that during Tet, she really likes to display a vase of single gerbera daisies in her house. In recent years, she has found this type of flower very rare because the market only sells double gerbera daisies. Therefore, she and her husband wanted to go to the garden to choose from the few flower beds left due to the impact of Typhoon Yagi .
The audience recognized People's Artist Lan Huong and her husband and asked to take a photo with them. Many commented that in real life, the female artist is young and friendly, very different from her roles as a formidable mother-in-law in movies.
After that, the couple went to Quang Ba flower market to see more peach and kumquat flowers... Lan Huong confided that because her house is small, she prefers to display round peach blossoms rather than curved peach blossoms.
The female artist confided that in addition to cleaning the house and buying flowers, she also pays a lot of attention to the Tet meal. The meal she prepares is a combination of traditional dishes from long ago such as fried spring rolls, bamboo shoot soup, meatball soup, boiled chicken, ham, beef stew... and new dishes such as shrimp, crab, seafood, fried corn... that her children and grandchildren like to eat.
At 12 o'clock, the couple returned home. Every year, when returning from the flower market, they stopped by Tran Quoc Pagoda to take a photo at the exact spot where they took the photo together 20 years ago.
On Tet holiday, the family of artist Lan Huong - Do Ky also has the habit of going to Hoan Kiem Lake to watch fireworks at the moment of New Year's Eve, then going to Ngoc Son Temple. After that, the whole family goes to Dong Quan Pagoda next to their house to worship.
"Returning from Hoan Kiem Lake, the whole family gathered together to enjoy the blessings and give each other good wishes on New Year's Eve. My family still maintains the tradition of going to wish each other a happy new year, first to our parents, then to relatives, especially grandparents and older uncles.
The family was large so they went into the houses in a group, chatting, congratulating and laughing happily," artist Lan Huong said.
People's Artist Lan Huong and Meritorious Artist Do Ky believe that welcoming a warm and happy new year together with family is the beginning of good things in 2025.
