(HBĐT) - Recently, many farmers in Phu Thanh commune (Lac Thuy) have boldly converted crops and livestock to develop the economy , in which the dairy farming model has brought high economic efficiency, stable income, contributing to improving the economic life of households.
The dairy farming model of Ms. Quach Thi Le (far right), Dong Danh village, Phu Thanh commune (Lac Thuy) is highly economically efficient.
Visiting the dairy farming model of Ms. Quach Thi Le's household in Dong Danh village, we were surprised by the scale of the barn and the modern design that Ms. Le built. Cows are raised in a closed system, fed and bathed daily; waste from the barn is fully utilized, composted and used as fertilizer for crops, increasing economic efficiency, saving costs, and protecting the environment. Building the model in 2020, from the initial 5 cows, Ms. Le has developed to 26 cows. The milk price purchased by the company is stable according to the contract at 15,500 VND/liter, each day collecting 200 - 250 liters of milk, the model earns over 1.1 billion VND/year. With diligence and hard work, Ms. Le's family's economic life is increasingly improving. To increase income, Ms. Le plans to expand the scale of the barn and increase the number of dairy cows compared to the present.
Ms. Le shared: "I have signed a consumption contract with Vietnam Dairy Products Joint Stock Company ( Vinamilk ), so the processes from feed sources, care, exploitation and preservation must comply with strict requirements to ensure quality. The source of animal feed is elephant grass, corn biomass, no pesticides or growth stimulants are used, this helps ensure the quality and safety of milk products for consumers. At the same time, the model is supported by dairy company staff with techniques, care methods, and prevention of common livestock diseases, so the herd of cows grows healthily. Thanks to that, it builds prestige and trust for consumption partners, ensures stable and long-term output, and creates sustainability for the model."
Dairy farming has appeared in Phu Thanh commune since 2019. Some farming households visited and learned models from other provinces to apply locally. With a temperate climate and many advantages, the models have developed stably and achieved high productivity. Up to now, the whole commune has 4 small and medium-sized dairy farms, all of which have signed long-term consumption contracts with Vinamilk, with stable output and prices, helping farmers feel secure in raising and producing.
It is known that according to the signed contract, farmers must comply with strict procedures set by the purchasing company. In contrast, the company commits to purchasing the daily amount of milk, not reducing the purchase price if the milk quality meets all required criteria. Compared to other livestock, dairy farming brings high economic efficiency, many times more superior, but the initial investment cost is large. The yellow cow that people still raise costs 15 - 17 million VND/breeding cow, while dairy cows cost 50 - 60 million VND/cow, and the breeding barn must also be clean to achieve high productivity and milk output. This is a model that has been invested in thoroughly from all stages, so to build and develop the model, households need large initial capital, experienced people, and technical support, otherwise it will be difficult to succeed. However, this is still an effective economic development direction, because the income from dairy cows is completely worthy of the effort that the farming households put in.
Comrade Bui Thi Hoa, Vice Chairman of Phu Thanh Commune People's Committee said: "The transformation of the economic structure, crops and livestock in the locality, in which dairy cow farming models have brought positive results. This is a promising livestock breed, bringing much higher income than some other livestock models. Therefore, the commune continues to create the most favorable conditions for households to access, visit and learn from experiences. At the same time, create conditions to help households access loans to expand livestock farming scale, increase income, create jobs for workers, gradually becoming one of the key economic sectors in the area. Up to now, the average income per capita of the whole commune has reached 73.8 million VND/year".
