This is the first visit to Vietnam by a Hungarian head of state in 11 years, taking place in the year marking the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The visit demonstrates Hungary's respect for Vietnam's role, position and prestige in the region and the world, along with its determination to promote the Comprehensive Partnership with Vietnam.

Hungary has always been a loyal and devoted friend, standing side by side with Vietnam during the most difficult times in history as well as in the cause of national construction and development today.

During the arduous war years, Hungary provided Vietnam with valuable aid, both material and spiritual, and actively supported the training of thousands of cadres, experts, engineers, and doctors - who made important contributions to the country's post-war reconstruction.

The 75-year journey since Vietnam and Hungary established diplomatic relations on February 3, 1950 is a proud one, woven with sincere friendship, mutual trust and persistent efforts of many generations of leaders and people of the two countries.

The traditional friendship between Vietnam and Hungary has been constantly strengthened, increasingly developing substantially, effectively, and in depth, bringing practical benefits in many fields. Among the traditional friendly countries in the Central Eastern European region, Hungary has always been considered by Vietnam as one of the most important partners, in the past, present and future.

In terms of politics and diplomacy, the two sides regularly exchange delegations. In 2018, during the official visit to Hungary by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, the two sides upgraded their relationship to Comprehensive Partnership, making Hungary Vietnam's first Comprehensive Partner in the Central Eastern Europe region.

In 2017, the Communist Party of Vietnam and the FIDESZ Party signed a Memorandum of Cooperation, officially establishing diplomatic relations between the two ruling parties.

The two countries regularly coordinate and support each other at international forums and organizations.

Political trust is a solid foundation for the Vietnam-Hungary bilateral relationship to achieve many positive results. Up to now, Hungary has 21 valid FDI projects in Vietnam with a total registered capital of 50.66 million USD, ranking 52nd among countries and territories with direct investment in Vietnam.

The projects are implemented in the following sectors: processing, manufacturing, communications, real estate business. The largest project with a scale of 40.1 million USD is in the processing and manufacturing industry in Binh Duong province. In Hanoi, there are 10 projects with a total investment of 8.59 million USD. The remaining projects are in other localities such as: Thanh Hoa, Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Thap.

Education and training is a bright spot in the Vietnam-Hungary relationship, helping Vietnam train more than 4,000 university and postgraduate experts. Hungary is also the country that provides the most scholarships to Vietnam in Central and Eastern Europe, with 200 scholarships each year. The community of about 6,000 Vietnamese people in Hungary has integrated well and is positively evaluated by the local government, serving as an important bridge to promote understanding, friendship and solidarity between the two peoples.

The official visit to Vietnam by the Hungarian President and his wife clearly demonstrates Vietnam's foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization and diversification; at the same time, it contributes to deepening relations with partners, especially traditional friends like Hungary. This is also a testament to Vietnam's consistent policy of valuing and promoting the Comprehensive Partnership with Hungary.

The focus is on enhancing cooperation in trade, investment, education-training, national defense-security, culture, sports, tourism, agriculture, medicine, and environment; while expanding to new areas such as renewable energy, nuclear energy, labor, information technology, digital transformation, and green transformation.

Wishing the official visit to Vietnam by Hungarian President Sulyok Tamas and his wife a great success, marking a new milestone in the 75-year history of bilateral relations, contributing to opening a new, more brilliant chapter for the traditional friendship and comprehensive partnership between Vietnam and Hungary.
