The 2nd Franco-Vietnamese Medical Conference was held at Hanoi Medical University on November 1, bringing together more than 50 leading experts from the French National Academy of Medicine, research institutes, universities, hospitals, experts and doctors from the two countries.
The conference aims to share and update the latest scientific information, exchange experiences in healthcare management, disease prevention and treatment in the context of globalization, digital transformation, artificial intelligence and precision medicine.
At the conference, Ms. Nguyen Thuy Anh, Deputy Head of the Central Strategic Policy Committee, President of the Vietnam - France Friendship and Cooperation Association (AACVF), said that through medical cooperation, the two countries share knowledge, improve national capacity, promote technological innovations and join hands for public health.
In particular, this conference should aim to promote cooperation in research and technology transfer in the field of vaccine production.
From the perspective of a long-standing high-quality human resource training facility in Vietnam, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huu Tu, Rector of Hanoi Medical University, shared that the residency program in the French Republic (FFI), maintained for more than 30 years, has trained thousands of excellent specialists and medical experts in Vietnam, many of whom are currently holding important positions in the health system. This is the clearest evidence contributing to the turning point in the quality of medical examination and treatment in Vietnam in the late 20th century.
According to Deputy Minister of Health Tran Van Thuan, over the course of more than a century, since the Indochina Medical School was established in 1902, marking the beginning of modern Vietnamese medicine, Vietnam-France medical cooperation has become a persistent, quiet but strong flow.
These are not just technical cooperation programs, but also companionship in thinking, vision and ideals, where every word in a textbook, every clinical case, every research project bears the mark of a lasting scientific friendship.
From the first batch of resident doctors to thousands of Vietnamese medical staff trained and interned in France; from hospital-research institute cooperation models to national-level projects in disease prevention, precision medicine, HIV/AIDS, oncology, artificial intelligence, etc., all have created a symphony of cooperation in which every note is associated with human life.
Opening new bridges of cooperation
Continuing this source of knowledge, the Deputy Minister expects that the Vietnam - France medical cooperation in the coming time will focus on the following key areas: developing standardized - interconnected - internationalized training programs; building smart hospital models and digital medical data systems; promoting cooperation in artificial intelligence in diagnostic imaging, electronic medical records, and skill simulation; strengthening emergency response capacity, elderly care, and regenerative medicine, etc., areas that both Vietnam and France are prioritizing development.
In particular, one step forward that Vietnam is steadfastly taking is implementing a national medical practice licensing exam chaired by the National Medical Council. This is not just an exam, but a turning point in standardizing professional capacity, ensuring patient safety, improving professional ethics and bringing Vietnam deeper into the regional and international medical community.
Therefore, the leaders of the Ministry of Health expressed their belief that this conference will open up new bridges of cooperation, where universities rewrite training programs; hospitals work together in technology transfer; research institutes light up common projects and above all, where generations of doctors from both countries look forward together, with the belief that medicine is a mission and cooperation is the inevitable path to fulfill that mission.
Mr. Soulier Eric, Counselor for Cooperation and Cultural Activities, French Embassy in Vietnam, expressed his hope that Vietnam and France will continue to have more medical cooperation, especially in the fields of internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, oncology, anesthesia and resuscitation, diagnostic imaging, dermatology, mental health, public health, etc.
At the conference, scientists, leading experts and doctors also shared about the developments of modern science and technology related to medicine such as: artificial intelligence and health, and automatic technology in medicine.
