President Lukashenko said BRICS could help Belarus restore its economy and maintain trade and financial balance. Joining the group in 2024 would help bring stability to the country's economy.

“We are interested in participating in integration processes in that space. BRICS is another platform that helps us maintain economic balance and stability,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, Belarus Foreign Minister Maksim Ryzhenkov said the country hopes to be among the top 10 countries to achieve the status of BRICS cooperation partner.

According to Mr. Ryzhenkov, Minsk sees BRICS as an effective platform, gathering global forces, where the country can promote its foreign policy interests, build economic relations and develop trade.

* El Salvador is also reportedly exploring the possibility of joining BRICS, according to Sputnik .

El Salvador is interested in attracting foreign investment, mainly from BRICS countries, because the country understands that it needs to diversify economic relations and not just focus on the US and the World Bank (WB).

Recently, the Executive Director of the Russian National Committee for BRICS Studies Georgiy Toloraya informed that there are currently 30 countries waiting in line to join the group.

BRICS was founded in 2009 with 5 countries: Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

In January 2024, Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) joined the group.
