More than a ton of smelly pork with subcutaneous bleeding, ready to be roasted, was discovered in Vinh Phuc, startling many people.

Cooking is not always safe

Dr. Le Van Thieu, Department of General Infection, Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases, warned: "Pork with signs of subcutaneous hemorrhage is often a sign of disease or the pig died of infection before slaughter. If it is still processed, people who eat it may face many dangerous diseases."

One of the top dangers is streptococcus suis infection - a type of bacteria that can cause purulent meningitis, sepsis, and multiple organ failure.

Severe cases can die in a very short time if not treated promptly.

"We have received many cases of hospitalization after eating blood pudding, sausage or unhygienic pork. Patients often have high fever, chills, headaches, impaired perception, and even coma. Especially those with weak constitutions such as the elderly and those with underlying diseases have a higher risk of complications," said Dr. Thieu.

Many people mistakenly believe that cooking thoroughly is enough to eliminate all bacteria. However, according to Dr. Thieu, this is not entirely true.

"Some toxins secreted by bacteria still exist even when food has been cooked. Furthermore, unsanitary processing and storage also causes bacteria to spread from meat to the hands of the person preparing it, kitchen utensils and other foods," Dr. Thieu analyzed.

According to Dr. Thieu, grilled dishes with strong spices and eye-catching colors easily hide signs of spoilage and rotting of pork. This is the reason why many processing facilities choose these dishes to "consume" diseased meat and meat of unknown origin.

Particularly dangerous is the habit of eating whole grilled dishes, which sometimes do not ensure that the inside is cooked evenly, allowing pathogens to remain and enter the eater's body.

Be careful when buying cheap pork of unknown origin.

The incident in Vinh Phuc is not an isolated incident. Previously, many cases of rotten meat and diseased pork were discovered before being put on the market for processing into dishes by authorities.

Consumption of cheap meat of unknown origin is putting people's health at risk.

Dr. Thieu recommends:

- Do not use meat with strange odor, unusual color, bruised surface, oozing or watery discharge.

- Prioritize buying meat at facilities with veterinary quarantine certificates.

- Absolutely do not eat raw blood pudding or rare meat.

- If after eating pork you have fever, headache, indigestion, fatigue, you need to see a doctor immediately because it could be a sign of a dangerous infection.

"Health cannot be traded for a cheap 'delicious' meal. Be a smart consumer - starting with choosing safe food for yourself and your family," Dr. Thieu emphasized.

The Investigation Police Agency of Vinh Phuc Province Police in coordination with the Vinh Phuc Market Management Department has just caught a facility processing 22 pigs with their internal organs removed, showing signs of external bleeding, of unknown origin.

The pigs, weighing over one ton in total, were left on the sidewalk in front of Thanh Mai restaurant, in Dong Thanh residential group, Dong Tam ward, Vinh Yen city, managed by Pham Ngoc Hung (40 years old, residing in Hoi Thinh commune, Tam Duong district).
