Master Trinh Huu Chung, Vice Rector in charge of Gia Dinh University, signed a notice adjusting the schedule for students to take holidays on Hung Vuong Ancestor Commemoration Day, April 30th, and May 1st, and switching to online learning to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Accordingly, students of all courses will have a 7-day break, starting from April 27th to May 3rd. Students will study online for the following week and make up for the 2 corresponding days of classes in the week after the holiday.

Specifically, second-year and third-year students will study online from May 8th to May 13th. Classes scheduled during the two holiday days (April 27th and 28th) will be made up on the corresponding two days of the week following the holiday (May 4th and 5th) via online learning.

Master Chung shared: “The school made this decision based on Official Document No. 1547 dated April 19th from the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee regarding the reactivation of the campaign to protect high-risk individuals in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, the Ministry of Education and Training's document on strengthening Covid-19 prevention and control, and the evolving situation of the pandemic. This also helps students save on travel costs during the holiday.”

Reportedly, in recent days, Gia Dinh University has recorded a number of lecturers and staff members infected with Covid-19. Therefore, Mr. Chung said the university has planned measures to prevent and control the epidemic.

On the morning of April 26th, more than 3,000 face masks and 50 bottles of hand sanitizer were distributed free of charge to faculty and students upon their arrival at the campus.

Before announcing the holiday schedule, starting from April 20th, the school requested all faculty, staff, and students to proactively implement disease prevention measures such as wearing masks in public places, washing hands frequently with soap, keeping their living spaces clean, closely monitoring their health if symptoms of infection appear, and notifying the school.

How do other universities celebrate the holidays?

If a lecturer needs to make up the course content, they will register for a make-up class and notify the students. Classes scheduled for May 2nd (Tuesday) and May 3rd (Wednesday) are cancelled. Make-up classes for these classes will be scheduled by the university the week following the holiday.
