Thunderstorms damaged 35 houses, killed 1 person

Due to the influence of the cold air strengthening, from the night of May 9 to the morning of May 11, the province had moderate to heavy rain, with thunderstorms in some places causing a lot of property damage.

The localities with the most damage were Van Ban, Bao Yen, Bat Xat and Muong Khuong districts.

A house in Luong Son commune, Bao Yen district had its roof blown off by a storm.

According to information from the Department of Agriculture and Environment, thunderstorms caused 35 houses to have their roofs blown off or landslides to enter their houses (26 houses in Bao Yen district, 8 houses in Van Ban district and 1 house in Muong Khuong district); of which 9 houses had their roofs blown off from 70% to 100%).

Along with that, floods have damaged a number of schools, cultural houses, irrigation works, and rural roads in Bao Yen, Bat Xat, and Van Ban districts.


Specifically, the flood caused the cultural house and the welcome gate of Yen Son commune (Bao Yen) to have their roofs blown off and severely damaged; the propaganda billboard in the center of Luong Son commune collapsed; the irrigation project in Hom Duoi village, Nam Chay commune (Van Ban) had 15m of concrete canal collapsed; the traffic road project to Bat village, Yen Son commune (Bao Yen) had its positive slopes eroded at 4 points with a volume of over 2,000 m3 ; the culvert across the road to Nam Chon village, Coc My commune was washed away, causing traffic disruption.

The cultural house and propaganda billboard of Luong Son commune, Bao Yen district were damaged by storms.


Regarding agricultural production, floods and storms have caused more than 4 hectares of rice, crops, and 2 hectares of cinnamon trees in Bao Yen, Van Ban, and Bat Xat districts to collapse; 1 buffalo (Vo Lao commune, Van Ban district) was struck dead by lightning.

Nearly 5 hectares of corn and crops were damaged by floods.

Notably, at around 9:15 p.m. on May 10, while visiting her fields, Ms. Chao Su May, residing in Ky Cong Ho village, Tong Sanh commune, Bat Xat district, was swept away by floodwaters. At 10 p.m. the same day, relatives found Ms. May's body, 200 meters from where she was swept away.


Immediately after the flood, local authorities mobilized local forces to help households with damaged houses overcome the consequences and support families with victims to stabilize their lives.
