With just over a week left until the Lunar New Year, the vibrant and joyful spring festivals, rich in traditional culture, are beginning to take place throughout the province. Thanks to the thorough and meticulous preparations by local authorities and the cultural sector, this year's spring festival season is expected to both preserve traditional beauty and introduce innovations in organization, promising a joyful and safe atmosphere for residents and tourists.

Fascinating traditional festivals

Today, traditional festivals not only serve the spiritual and cultural needs of the people but also attract domestic and international tourists to visit and learn about the culture. Through this, they contribute to the preservation, honoring, promotion of the value, and promotion of the image of local historical sites and scenic spots. Therefore, the preparation and organization of spring festivals are always given attention by local authorities, ensuring they are organized systematically, thoughtfully, solemnly, safely, healthily, economically, and deeply rooted in national identity.

One of the unmissable spring festivals when traveling to Quang Ninh in particular and Northern Vietnam in general is the Yen Tu Spring Festival, held over the first three months of the lunar year. The opening ceremony takes place on the 10th day of the first lunar month (February 7th, 2025). In addition to activities fulfilling spiritual needs, visitors to the Yen Tu Spring Festival can immerse themselves in a unique cultural atmosphere with folk games; traditional art performances, traditional musical instruments; dragon and lion dances; traditional martial arts demonstrations; horseback riding experiences... at Minh Tam Square; view exhibitions of paintings and photographs promoting the values and majestic, sacred beauty of Yen Tu; and experience the cuisine and learn about the culture of the Dao Thanh Y ethnic community at the foot of Yen Tu mountain…

According to Nguyen Van Thanh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Uong Bi City: To date, preparations for the Yen Tu Spring Festival are being urgently carried out to be ready to welcome people and tourists to attend the festival. The city has intensified propaganda and promotion activities for the Yen Tu Spring Festival 2025. Along with that, it has directed units to review and supplement the system of directional signs in the Yen Tu historical site; signs promoting environmental hygiene and civilized tourism. At the same time, it is repairing, maintaining, and beautifying the pilgrimage routes in the historical site, installing kiosks to provide tourist information at attractions, guiding the use of services and facilities at Yen Tu; and constructing panels introducing the overall map of the Yen Tu historical site complex and detailed maps of the component historical sites within the Yen Tu complex…

For the spring festivals, the Provincial Buddhist Association and the Dong Trieu City People's Committee also coordinated to develop plans and prepare the conditions for organizing two city-level festivals: the Ngoa Van Spring Festival and the Thai Mieu Festival, ensuring safety, practicality, and effectiveness. These festivals are events with humanistic values, focusing on the origins and expressing gratitude for the merits of the Tran kings and other ancestors who contributed to the country. Therefore, the units proactively developed plans early on to coordinate activities to welcome people and tourists to the festivals, ensuring thorough preparation.

Mr. Pham Xuan Hoan, Head of the Management Board of the Tran Dynasty Historical Site, shared:   Besides strengthening state management of festivals, this year, the city continues to focus on organizing diverse cultural activities within the framework of festivals such as: Ngoa Van Spring Folk Music and Singing Festival in Dong Trieu City;   An Sinh Village Cultural Festival 2025   Activities include sports and traditional games; introducing and displaying typical OCOP products from 19 communes and wards… Through these activities, the aim is to introduce and promote tangible and intangible cultural values; educate about patriotic traditions, preserve and promote national cultural identity; and raise the sense of responsibility of the people and the community in managing, preserving, and promoting the value of the Tran Dynasty relics in Dong Trieu.

Contributing to the promotion and development of cultural tourism.

Springtime excursions and festivals have been a long-standing tradition, a beautiful cultural aspect, and an indispensable part of Vietnamese life. These festivals, held during the Lunar New Year, honor patriotic traditions, national pride, celebrate the spirit of hard work, pray for national peace and prosperity, favorable weather, and bountiful harvests. Therefore, these early-year festivals always create a joyful and vibrant atmosphere, giving people more confidence, motivation, and enthusiasm for work and production, building a more prosperous and happy life.

Quang Ninh currently has over 100 festivals, including nearly 80 traditional festivals, many of which take place in the spring. Along with major festivals in Uong Bi City and Dong Trieu, some typical early spring festivals that attract a large number of visitors from all over the province include: Tien Cong Festival (Quang Yen Town), Cua Ong Temple Festival (Cam Pha City), Cai Bau Pagoda Festival (Van Don), Luc Na Communal House Festival (Binh Lieu); Van Ninh Communal House Festival (Mong Cai City), Dam Ha Communal House Festival (Dam Ha)...

According to statistics, on average, each year, the historical sites and scenic spots where spring festivals take place welcome between 1,000 and over 10,000 visitors daily, with peaks during the main festival and on weekends, demonstrating the attractiveness of cultural and spiritual tourism in the province. It is predicted that this year's Lunar New Year holiday will last 9 days, so people tend to choose 3-day/2-night or 4-day/3-night tours to visit, experience culture, and relax… This presents a favorable opportunity for spring festivals to attract tourists and promote spiritual tourism in the localities.

Along with other localities nationwide, Quang Ninh is actively preparing the best conditions to ensure that the spring festivals in the province are solemn, adhere to proper rituals, are joyful, healthy, and diverse in form with traditional folk cultural and artistic activities, creating a lasting impression on locals and tourists. At the same time, the province is strengthening state management of festival activities in disease prevention, fire safety, environmental sanitation, and ensuring security and order. Through this, the province aims to preserve the beauty of its spiritual culture and build a civilized lifestyle at historical sites and religious establishments where spring festivals take place, making Quang Ninh a leading spiritual tourism destination in the country and contributing positively to realizing the goal of attracting 20 million tourists, including 4.5 million international visitors. Total revenue from tourism activities reached 50,000 billion VND.
