According to China Times, actor Lam Thuong Vu breathed his last after a sudden heart attack on November 4. His passing left a huge void in the hearts of his colleagues and audiences. He was not only a talented actor but also a symbol of extraordinary will to live, a person who turned his life tragedy into an inspirational epic.
The legacy of a multi-talented artist
To millions of viewers, Lam Thuong Vu will always be Khuu Xu Co in Legend of the Condor Heroes (1994 version). With his tall stature and upright demeanor, he has carved one of the most classic Quanzhen Taoist images on screen.
But his legacy does not stop there. Born in 1950 in Cho Lon (Vietnam), Lam Thuong Vu began his brilliant career on the stage. Graduated from Hong Kong Baptist University, he joined the Hong Kong Drama Group and quickly asserted his talent, winning the Best Actor award in the stage category in 1989.
That same year, he joined TVB, opening a new chapter in his career. Audiences remember him through the role of eunuch Bo Gonggong in Burning Time , lawyer Vi in The Man on the Side , or various roles in the series Justice Files . Not only acting, he is also a dedicated teacher, spending more than 10 years as a lecturer for TVB's actor training class, mentoring many generations of artists.

The 20-year and 10-month war of "deafness and dumbness"
In 1994, Lam Thuong Vu was diagnosed with nasopharyngeal cancer. That was the "opening shot" of an unequal battle that lasted more than two decades. The chemotherapy, although saving his life, left devastating consequences. The affected nerves made it difficult for him to speak and his hearing was severely impaired. From a leading stage actor, he was forced to retreat behind the scenes.
But fate was not done with him. In 2004, a bout of flu caused bacteria to enter his ear, leaving him completely deaf in his right ear.
The climax of the tragedy came in 2009. Severe migraines struck, and then the most terrible thing: Lam Thuong Vu fell into 10 months of being both deaf and mute, almost completely losing the ability to hear and express language.

Lam Thuong Vu: An immortal spirit
During those 10 dark months and for 20 years, Lam Thuong Vu could have collapsed. He once shared that he had a "theater addiction". When he could not pronounce to act, he used his hands to write. He turned all his energy to writing scripts, writing lyrics and composing music.
In 2013, Lam Thuong Vu was honored with the "Top 10 Rebirth Warriors" award, a prestigious recognition for his indomitable spirit and ability to inspire those in adversity.
His last public appearance was in 2017, at a charity stage sharing event. Although thin, wearing a hearing aid, and having difficulty communicating, his eyes still shone with the same passion.
Lam Thuong Vu has passed away, but he leaves behind two parallel legacies: a generous Qiu Chuji on screen and a resilient "Reborn Warrior" in real life. He lived a full life, fought until his last breath and proved that even when the body is destroyed, the spirit of a true artist remains immortal.
