South Africa - a potential market for pharmaceutical and medical equipment manufacturing businesses

The Vietnam Trade Office in South Africa said that on March 13 and 14, 2024, at the Sandton Convention Center, Johannesburg, South Africa, SAPHEX 2024 event took place for pharmaceutical manufacturing and medical equipment supply companies. This is the leading prestigious international exhibition specializing in the pharmaceutical industry in the African region.

SAPHEX 2024 gathered the participation of over 100 booths from more than 30 countries around the world and welcomed more than 2,000 visitors, of which 32% were pharmaceutical manufacturers and 44% were regional pharmaceutical business partners across Africa.

South Africa is considered a potential market for the Vietnamese pharmaceutical and medical equipment industry and will be the gateway for Vietnamese goods to penetrate deeper into Africa.

Participating in SAPHEX 2024, the Vietnamese delegation including 3 companies: Euro Sante, Davifarm and MTC had meetings with partners and visited drugstore chains in South Africa; at the same time, worked and discussed with partners on consulting on importing drugs and medical equipment for the South African market.

According to the Vietnam Trade Office in South Africa, South Africa currently remains Vietnam's largest trading partner in the African region, with bilateral turnover in 2023 reaching nearly 1.2 billion USD, of which Vietnam's total export turnover to this market accounts for two-thirds of the total turnover.

However, the export of pharmaceutical products and medical equipment from Vietnam to South Africa is insignificant, but South Africa is considered a potential market in the future because it is one of the large markets and will be the gateway for Vietnamese products to penetrate deep into other countries within the African continent.
