(Dan Tri Newspaper) - A student in Soc Trang has created a "Software for scoring multiple-choice tests using image processing," which was selected to participate in an international competition in Malaysia and won first runner-up.
Ms. Tran Thi Kim Thoa (a teacher at Hoang Dieu High School, Soc Trang City, Soc Trang Province) said that Nguyen The Vinh's project, "Software for scoring multiple-choice tests using image processing," won first runner-up in the "Coolest Project Malaysia" programming competition, held in Malaysia from November 25th to 26th. "Vinh is very passionate about scientific research, especially in the field of information technology. He independently researched and came up with the idea for this project, and I'm very happy that he won such a high prize," Ms. Kim Thoa, who also mentored Vinh, shared.

According to the author's description, the test grading kit is quite simple, consisting of: a smartphone with a camera, a container of empty A4 paper, and a stand to place the phone on top. When grading, the user simply turns on the software, places the paper in the container, and the camera scans it; the teacher then records the results. Images of all graded tests are saved. The tests are then stored in a public Google Drive folder for other teachers to access, ensuring objectivity and efficiency. The software also includes functions such as creating and editing grading data, viewing scanned images, exporting results to Excel, and printing grading results. The software supports alerts when the test shows unusual signs, automatically rotates images when they are flipped, etc. Ms. Tran Thi Kim Thoa said that Vinh's test scoring software has many advantages such as reducing errors in the grading process when teachers grade on paper, saving time in grading, and reducing the effort of teachers,... "The software can be accessed via computer and phone via web with absolute accuracy, and has been tested at Hoang Dieu High School and highly appreciated by teachers," Ms. Thoa shared. The "Coolest Projects Malaysia" competition is a science and technology competition for high school students under 18 years old, held annually. 2023 marks the 4th year of the competition, with over 500 projects from students in many countries around the world submitted.
