Naval Region 5 is equipped with a number of Roro 5612 ships. This is a new generation multi-purpose landing ship manufactured by Damen Shipbuilding Group (Netherlands). The ship is equipped with many new and modern technical equipment. Among them, there is the YN-541047 hydraulic control system - a system for managing, commanding, instructing, and monitoring the operation of hydraulic equipment on the ship.

Over time, the temperature sensor and warning device on Ship 526 broke down, causing the central processing unit of the hydraulic control system to issue false warnings and prevent the system from starting. Shortly thereafter, the remaining Roro ships all showed similar failures and could not operate normally. Purchasing new equipment or spare parts for replacement is very expensive and takes a long time because it has to go through a third party. The manufacturer has designed, programmed and produced highly modular equipment, making it difficult to exploit spare parts and supplies.

Major Vu Duy Hieu, Assistant of the Electronic Equipment Department, Logistics and Engineering Department, Navy Region 5, has successfully researched, designed and manufactured a temperature sensor and warning device for the YN-541047 hydraulic control system on the Roro 5612 ship. The sensor has the same technical features as the original sensor equipped on the ship. The initiative was awarded the A prize, the Nguyen Phan Vinh Creative Youth Award of the 14th Navy in 2025.

The new sensor costs only one-tenth of the price of the product ordered from the manufacturer.

“The product ensures technical parameters, communication and provides accurate information to the central processing unit of the hydraulic control system. The materials and components to manufacture the sensor are quite popular on the market. After completion, the sensor device costs only 1/10 compared to the product ordered from the manufacturer,” Major Vu Duy Hieu shared.

The innovative temperature sensor and warning device for the hydraulic control system YN-541047 has completely replaced the old sensor on Roro 5612 ships of Naval Region 5.

After successful testing, the temperature sensor and warning device was installed on Roro 5612 ships of Naval Region 5. Evaluating the sensor device, Lieutenant Colonel Bui Long Giang, Head of Logistics and Engineering, Naval Region 5 said: "Through actual testing, the temperature sensor and warning device has operated stably, completely replacing the old damaged device. The initiative not only works well on Roro 5612 ships but can also be studied and put into use on other ships with similar temperature monitoring and warning systems in the Navy."

The successful production of temperature sensors and warning devices not only helps the unit improve its combat readiness but also demonstrates its ability to master new, modern technical equipment and weapons, and its ability to localize equipment, contributing to proactive technical assurance for missions.
