According to Ngo Van Loc, Deputy Head of the Department of Culture and Information of Gio Linh district, with the attention of the district People's Committee and localities, many traditional cultural and sports festivals are being preserved, conserved and promoted in value through annual organization or organization every 2-3 years/1 time depending on the actual situation in each locality on the occasion of Tet and spring to preserve and promote the cultural identity of Gio Linh land and meet the enjoyment needs of people and tourists from near and far.

Festivals have created the brand of Gio Linh district such as the traditional festival of An My village, Cam Pho (Gio My commune), the pole raising and lowering ceremony in Gio An commune, the traditional swing festival of Nhi Trung village (Gio Hai commune), Lan Dinh village (Phong Binh commune), the traditional boat racing competition of Xuan Long village, Xuan My village (Trung Hai commune), Nam Son village (Trung Giang commune)...

Attention is paid to the investment, conservation, restoration and effective promotion of cultural and historical relics in association with the development of community tourism , eco-tourism, and nostalgic tourism about the old battlefields. In Gio Linh district, there are 63 historical and cultural relics, including many national relics and special national relics such as: Truong Son National Martyrs' Cemetery, Hien Luong - Ben Hai Special National Relic Site, Quan Ngang Base Relic Site, Doc Mieu, Con Tien, McNamara Electronic Fence Relic Site...

In addition, the district focuses on exploiting its diverse and unique culinary strengths to create unique tourism products such as: Can wine in Linh Truong commune, Banh It La Gai, Banh Chi in Gio My commune, Banh In, Banh Hoc, Banh Loc in Gio Linh town, Nep wine in Gio An commune, Bun Hen in Gio Mai commune...; mobilizing resources to invest in exploiting Cua Viet tourist area, Gio Hai and Trung Giang community beaches, Gio An ancient well system... In 2024, the number of tourists visiting and relaxing in the district is estimated at about 300,000.

In recent years, Gio Linh district has effectively implemented the movement "All people unite to build a cultural life" associated with promoting "Studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and lifestyle", building new rural areas, civilized urban areas, implementing civilized lifestyles in weddings, funerals, festivals... creating consensus and attracting the participation of many classes of people.

Cultural, artistic and sports activities are regularly organized by the district and localities in association with important holidays, festivals and events of the homeland and country. Traditional values ​​of each family and community are aroused and have a positive impact in building a cultural lifestyle and a cultural family.

From this movement, people have actively contributed and enjoyed cultural and sports needs, improved their spiritual life, and built prosperous and happy families. According to statistics, the whole district currently has about 20,039/21,056 households achieving the title of cultural family; 96.9% of residential areas are recognized as cultural residential areas.

Cultural and sports facilities are invested in to create conditions for people to participate in cultural activities, exercise and improve their health. 100% of communes and towns have planned land funds for sports facilities; most localities have volleyball and soccer fields....

In addition, many businesses and households in Gio Linh district have invested in infrastructure to serve sports activities in the form of socialization, with 10 artificial turf football fields, 4 tennis courts, 3 swimming pools, 13 billiard facilities, 3 martial arts clubs, 3 fitness facilities, 5 badminton facilities...; at the same time, dozens of sports tournaments are organized each year, creating many useful playgrounds for people.

Vice Chairman of Gio Linh District People's Committee Duong Duc Hanh said that in recent times, the district has done a good job of state management in the fields of culture, sports and tourism, clearly demonstrated through the many festivals, cultural and sports activities being held enthusiastically throughout the district.

Promote the socialization of culture, mobilize investment resources, and sponsor cultural development; encourage organizations and individuals to invest and contribute resources to cultural activities and build cultural works. Prioritize investment in building and upgrading a number of key cultural works and cultural institutions and organize many recreational and entertainment activities to serve the increasing needs of the people.

With the convergence of many special factors, Gio Linh district was chosen by the province and the central government as the place to organize many large-scale cultural and sports events, typically: National Reunification Festival; Opening Festival of Quang Tri Sea and Island Tourism Season; National 2x2 Beach Volleyball Championship 2022; Vietnamese Cultural and Culinary Festival 2023; Festival for Peace 2024...

The district always strives to ensure the best conditions for cultural and sports events and festivals at provincial and national levels to take place successfully, leaving many good impressions in the hearts of local people and domestic and international tourists when coming to Gio Linh.
