Premature birth is the leading cause of death in newborns, with an estimated 15 million premature babies (one in 10 babies) born worldwide each year. In Vietnam, it is estimated that more than 130,000 babies are born prematurely and 17,000 babies die within 28 days of birth each year, accounting for about 45% of all child deaths. Premature babies face many serious health risks and complications that affect their later development. Therefore, to take good care of premature babies, it is necessary to have the necessary knowledge and be more careful than normal newborns.

To raise public awareness of the difficulties and consequences of premature birth, enhance the ability to detect risks early during pregnancy, improve medical treatment, empower parents and reduce long-term consequences for children and families, the Vietnam Children's Fund and the American International Hospital (AIH) signed an agreement on October 24, 2022 to launch the program "Supporting Premature Babies in Vietnam". The training program is for 100 students of childbearing age or families with premature babies in Yen Bai province. Through the training, students will be instructed by specialized doctors of the American International Hospital (AIH) on how to prevent premature birth as well as how to care for premature babies at home.

Also at the program, leaders of the Vietnam Children's Fund, the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Yen Bai province and representatives of the American International Hospital (AIH) presented 13 cash gifts, each worth 2,000,000 VND, to 13 families of premature babies in difficult circumstances in Yen Bai province.
