According to Associate Professor, Doctor Nguyen Thi Lam, former Deputy Director of the National Institute of Nutrition, the intestines play a crucial role in receiving nutrients to nourish the body. Therefore, a healthy intestine helps ensure the full absorption of micronutrients, strengthens immunity, and fights against infections.
"Studies show that eating yogurt regularly is a way to beautify from the inside out," said Dr. Lam.
Yogurt provides vitamins and minerals such as calcium, potassium, zinc, vitamin A, B2, protein, etc., which help balance the gut microbiome, promote a healthy digestive system, improve metabolism, support the elimination of toxins, and contribute to healthier, brighter, and smoother skin.
In addition, the protein in yogurt is a high-quality protein, which supports the absorption of minerals and lowers blood pressure.
Although yogurt has many health benefits, it still needs to be consumed regularly and at the right times to achieve the best results.
Yogurt is very good for the digestive system.
How many containers of yogurt should you eat a day?
Associate Professor, Doctor Nguyen Thi Lam recommends that adults should eat 1-2 containers of yogurt per day to take care of their digestive health in particular, and improve overall health in general.
For infants aged 6 months to one year, they can eat 2 tablespoons to 1/2 a container of yogurt. When the child is one year old, they can be given one container of yogurt a day to aid digestion.
"Yogurt is a very convenient food and can be prepared and combined with many other foods. Mothers can combine yogurt with ripe fruits to create new, attractive, and nutritious dishes for their beloved children," shared Dr. Lam.
When is the best time to eat yogurt?
To get the most health benefits from yogurt, Associate Professor Lam shared that it can be consumed at the following times:
One hour after a main meal : This is the time when the beneficial bacteria in yogurt can easily overcome the harsh environment of the stomach to increase their effectiveness in supporting gut health. Furthermore, at this time, gastric juices are diluted, and the pH is balanced, so the beneficial bacteria in yogurt have the best conditions to thrive.
Breakfast: People on a weight loss or dieting regimen can eat yogurt along with some fruits, nuts, or cereals for a light yet nutritious breakfast.
Late afternoon : This is when the body starts showing signs of fatigue and needs an energy boost. Choosing yogurt provides a nutritious yet low-calorie snack, helping you maintain your desired figure while also being very good for your health.
During exercise: The process of exercising often causes muscle tension. Eating yogurt will help the body replenish calcium, carbohydrates, protein, and beneficial bacteria necessary for faster recovery. Especially after exercise, energy levels are low, so eating yogurt helps replenish this lost energy.
The expert advises that while yogurt is good for health, consumers should choose reputable brands and avoid buying expired yogurt that does not meet food safety standards. Families should store yogurt at a temperature between 4 and 8 degrees Celsius to maintain beneficial bacteria.
