According to Yonhap News, Kpop girl group NewJeans was invited to attend the 2024 Billboard Women in Music Awards in Los Angeles, California (USA), where they were honored as Group of the Year.
NewJeans made history by becoming the first K-pop artist and the second artist worldwide to win this award at the Billboard Women in Music Awards, since 2015 with Fifth Harmony (To date, the Newcomer of the Year category has been honored twice, in 2015 and 2024).
American country singer Laney Wilson - who presented the award - introduced New Jeans: "They have led a new wave of girl groups in K-pop, which has long been a male-dominated genre."
At the awards ceremony, NewJeans performed their hit songs "Super Shy" and "ETA". The group also mentioned their plans to release new music and tour that their global fans are eagerly waiting for.
Danielle - NewJeans representative - shared: "We can't reveal too much but we are preparing and practicing hard. We can't wait to share new songs with everyone."
Billboard Women in Music is an annual event organized by Billboard to honor women in the music industry who have made outstanding contributions to the music industry. This year, NewJeans was honored as Group of the Year” thanks to the success of the countless hits they have released since their debut in 2022.
"Since their debut in July 2022, NewJeans has quickly risen to the top of the K-pop charts. Six of the group's eight singles have reached No. 1 or No. 2 on Korea's top streaming metric, Circle Digital Chart," Billboard notes.
The group has also debuted on Billboard charts, including three Top 10 hits on the Global 200, four Global Excl.US hits, five Billboard Hot 100 hits, and six Top 10 World Digital Song Sales hits.
