Russia speaks out about Trump's attempted assassination: Don't play with fire

(Dan Tri) - Russia has expressed its opinion on the alleged connection between the suspect in the assassination of former US President Donald Trump and Ukraine.

When asked about the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)'s statement on the assassination of former President Donald Trump, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on September 16 that Ukraine's connection to the suspect in the assassination showed that "playing with fire" would have consequences. "We are not the ones who need to think, it is the US intelligence agencies who need to think. In any case, playing with fire will have consequences," Mr. Peskov said. Early in the afternoon of September 15, a shooting occurred at Trump International Golf Course. Suspect Ryan Wesley Routh was discovered only about 300-500m from where Mr. Trump played golf. After being discovered, the suspect got into a black car and fled. According to a witness, at least 20 police patrol cars chased the suspect. The suspect was eventually arrested, but continued to remain silent. According to CNN, Routh has a criminal record and has been to court several times. The suspect is identified as being about 58 years old, living in North Carolina, with no military experience. According to US media, the suspect is believed to be a supporter of Ukraine. In 2022, the suspect posted a series of posts on social network X. One of those posts said that this man was willing to fight for Ukraine in the conflict with Russia. In late 2022, Routh used his personal Facebook account to call on foreigners to join the war in Ukraine. He targeted Afghan conscripts and considered himself an unofficial contact for Ukraine. The suspect's son said that Routh had traveled to Ukraine as a volunteer to provide humanitarian assistance to the Ukrainian army in the conflict with Russia. The son also said that his father was thoughtful, honest and hard-working. It is not yet clear whether Routh's assassination plan against Mr. Trump was related to his pro-Ukraine ideology. Mr. Trump himself has repeatedly criticized the US for spending too much aid on Ukraine. He once proposed the idea of providing aid to Ukraine in the form of loans. He also affirmed that if re-elected, he would be able to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict within 24 hours by forcing the parties to sit at the negotiating table. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the assassination attempt on Mr. Trump. "I am very relieved to hear that Donald Trump is safe and in good health. I send my best wishes to him and his family," Mr. Zelensky shared on X. "It is good that the suspect in the assassination was quickly arrested. This is our principle: the rule of law is paramount and political violence has no place anywhere in the world," Mr. Zelensky emphasized. The International Defense Corps of Ukraine, a military unit of foreign volunteers, has denied any connection with Routh. "We would like to make it clear that Ryan Wesley Routh has never been part of, affiliated with or associated with the International Legion in any way," the Legion said in a comment to Euronews.
