This flock of storks, about 3 to 4 hundred, migrates in groups to take shelter and forage around the buffer zone of the World Natural Heritage Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park. This also shows that the landscape and resources here are well protected and stable, creating favorable conditions for the residence and foraging of migratory birds.

Every early morning, many locals and tourists coming to Phong Nha come out to enjoy the cool breeze, enjoy watching the young rice fields, breathe the fresh air from the Son River and watch flocks of storks spreading their wings and flying, "covering" a picturesque area.

Mr. Dinh Huy Tri, Deputy Director of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park, added: Since the beginning of the year, there have been many flocks of storks appearing around the Heritage buffer zone. However, the most have been in the last 4 days, in the morning they fly away, in the evening they fly back, covering the entire forest.

To protect this rare flock of storks, local authorities and forest rangers have also stepped up propaganda to raise public awareness of preserving natural ecology, preserving the habitat of the storks and protecting the landscape of the Phong Nha - Ke Bang Heritage buffer zone.

The appearance of the flock of storks and swallows in recent days has not had any negative impact on the lives and production of the people. Moreover, many people are also aware of protecting the birds and chasing away poachers. Therefore, the number of storks and other birds coming to live and feed in the buffer zone of Phong Nha - Ke Bang World Natural Heritage is increasing, creating a beautiful space and picture, signaling a year of favorable weather, good crops, and peaceful and prosperous life for the people.

The swallow stork, also known as the snail stork, scientific name is Anastomus oscitans, belongs to the crane family, is a rare animal listed in the Vietnam Red Book.
