On August 29, the People's Committee of Sam Son City ( Thanh Hoa ) said that the monument "The ship gathering to the North" in subdivision A of the project of the Memorial Area for Southern compatriots, soldiers and students gathering to the North is being urgently completed.
The monument "The Ship Gathering to the North" is made of reinforced concrete, covering an area of about 3,200 square meters.
It is known that the project of the Memorial Area for Southern compatriots, soldiers and students who gathered in the North is built along the banks of the Ma River in Quang Tien Ward, Sam Son City. The project has a scale of more than 40,000m2, starting construction at the end of August 2022, with the People's Committee of Sam Son City as the investor.
The project has a total capital of nearly 255 billion VND, of which the provincial budget supports 76 billion VND, the rest is from Sam Son city budget and socialized sources.
The memorial area is divided into three sub-areas, of which area A is about 13,600 square meters wide, considered the center with a ship-shaped monument and a large bow-shaped relief.
The monument "The Ship Gathering in the North" is made of reinforced concrete, covering an area of about 3,200 square meters. The highest point is the bow of the ship, 12 meters high, equivalent to a three-story house. Standing at this position, you can see the view of Hoi Port and part of the center of Sam Son City, behind which is the downstream of the Ma River flowing into the sea.
The relief has an arc shape of about 500m2 and is also made of granite blocks. Currently, the monument and the relief have reached more than 98% of the work volume. The construction unit is completing the final items such as cleaning, installing LED lights...
Mr. Luong Tat Thang, Secretary of the Sam Son City Party Committee, said that the ship monument and the relief have been basically completed and on schedule. This is also the area to prepare for the event commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Southern compatriots and soldiers regrouping to the North (1954 - 2024) held on the evening of September 1.

The meticulously carved stone statue shows the affection of Thanh Hoa's army and people for their compatriots, cadres, soldiers and students from the South who gathered in the North.

According to historical documents, on September 25, 1954, at Hoi estuary (now Lach Hoi port, Sam Son city), flags and flowers were brightly lit to welcome the first ship breaking through the waves to the cheers of Thanh Hoa people welcoming their blood relatives from the South to the North.
Thanh Hoa welcomed hundreds of thousands of Southern cadres, soldiers, students, and Southern compatriots to the North. In 7 waves (from October 15, 1954 to May 1, 1955), Thanh Hoa province welcomed 1,869 wounded and sick soldiers; 47,346 cadres; 5,922 students and 1,443 families to the North.
70 years have passed, but the days of studying and training in the North, in the homeland of Thanh Hoa, with the love, care and protection of the people, were the luggage and strong motivation for the people, cadres, soldiers and students in the South to realize their determination, urged them to strive, study and train, from which many "red seeds" were born to nurture the revolutionary movement in the South.
Workers are cleaning the relief, completing the final stages of the monument "The Ship Gathering to the North".
At the monument area, the construction unit designed an additional pedestrian pier with a sturdy railing and wall system.
The live TV program to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Geneva Agreement and the regrouping train (1954-2024) will be held at 6:00 p.m. on September 1, 2024. The program will be held at three locations: The memorial site of the Southern compatriots and soldiers who regrouped to the North in 1954 in Sam Son City (Thanh Hoa); The national historical relic site of the regrouping site to the North in 1954 in Cao Lanh City ( Dong Thap ); The campus of the Monument of the Heroic Martyrs of the Unnumbered Train, Brigade 125 - Naval Region 2, Cat Lai Ward, Thu Duc City (HCMC).
