(NLDO) - On the first day Decree 168/2024 took effect, traffic police forces nationwide handled 13,591 violations, fined nearly 28 billion VND.


On January 1, news from the Traffic Police Department (Traffic Police, Ministry of Public Security ) said that in the first day of 2025, there were 51 traffic accidents nationwide, killing 28 people and injuring 35 people. Of which, there were 50 traffic accidents on roads, killing 27 people and injuring 35 people. A railway accident killed 1 person.

On the first day of implementing traffic safety and order, inspection and handling according to Decree 168/2024, the national traffic police force inspected, detected and handled 13,591 violations; fined (expected) nearly 28 billion VND; temporarily detained 82 cars, 4,050 motorbikes, 111 other vehicles; revoked 2,603 ​​driving licenses of all types.

Of these, there were 2,789 cases of alcohol concentration violations; 3,105 cases of speed violations; 241 cases of overloading; 34 cases of exceeding the size limit; and 43 cases of drug violations.

Decree 168/2024, effective from January 1, 2025, stipulates that the fines for many traffic violations will increase dozens of times. Accordingly, Decree 168 will strictly handle acts that cause traffic accidents and show disregard for the law when participating in traffic by increasing the fines to very high levels, such as the fine for drivers who do not comply with traffic lights will be increased from 4 - 6 million VND to 18 - 20 million VND.

Acts of transporting goods on vehicles without securing them; obstructing or failing to comply with requests for inspection or control by law enforcement officers; failing to comply with traffic controllers' instructions... will have fines 3-30 times higher than current ones. Acts of opening vehicle doors or leaving them open unsafely, causing traffic accidents, will have fines increased sharply to 36-50 times. For motorcyclists and motorbike drivers who violate traffic safety regulations, the fines will also increase compared to current ones.
