Ca Mau Crab Festival 2025: Making 'forest flavor - sea flavor' a national brand

The 2nd Ca Mau Crab Festival in 2025 aims to bring Ca Mau crab to become a national brand and to the international arena with the ecological value of "forest flavor - sea flavor" typical of Dat Mui region.

On the evening of November 16, Ca Mau province held the opening ceremony of the 2nd Ca Mau Crab Festival in 2025, with the theme "Ca Mau Crab: forest scent - sea taste".

Attending the ceremony were Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tam, Deputy Head of the Central Organizing Committee; Mr. Phan Nhu Nguyen, Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Farmers' Union ; Ms. Cao Xuan Thu Van, President of the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance; Mr. Tran Thanh Nam, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment, and representatives of ministries, departments, branches, and provinces and cities in the region.

On the side of Ca Mau, there were Mr. Nguyen Ho Hai, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Mr. Huynh Quoc Viet, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee; Mr. Pham Van Thieu, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; Mr. Pham Thanh Ngai, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; provincial leaders of all periods, along with departments, branches, business community and nearly 1,000 people and tourists.

Mr. Pham Van Thieu, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of Ca Mau province, delivered the opening speech of the Ca Mau Crab Festival.

The event, which lasts until November 22, creates a space for trade connection, tourism promotion and investment promotion; and at the same time introduces the value chain of Ca Mau crab - the leading industry in the country in terms of output with more than 36,000 tons per year.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Pham Van Thieu, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of Ca Mau province, emphasized that Ca Mau crab is not only an economic commodity, but also a cultural symbol of the residents of the southernmost region of the country. The core value of the crab industry lies in the harmony between the forest and the sea - where nature nurtures resources and people build their identity through diligence.

Mr. Thieu said that the province is implementing a series of strategic orientations such as: standardizing farming processes, researching new breeds, developing molting crab models, improving processing and preservation quality according to GlobalGAP and VietGAP standards; at the same time, calling on businesses to invest deeply in logistics and e-commerce.

Mr. Tran Thanh Nam, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment, said that Ca Mau deserves to be the "crab capital of Vietnam".

Mr. Tran Thanh Nam, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment, highly appreciated Ca Mau's efforts in building a sustainable crab production and consumption ecosystem, considering this a model that can be replicated in other aquaculture regions.

"Ca Mau deserves to be the 'crab capital of Vietnam', creating sustainable livelihoods for tens of thousands of households. The shrimp - crab - forest model is also internationally recognized as a green economic direction, a circular economy, contributing to the protection of mangrove forests - the "green shield" of the southernmost part of the country and achieving the goal of net zero emissions by 2050," Mr. Nam emphasized.

Within the framework of the festival, there will be activities such as: crab industry trade exhibition, start-up products, OCOP booths, crab-related records, international conference on innovation in the sea crab industry.

At the same time, the province will coordinate to organize the Ca Mau Marathon 2025 and the CamaUP'25 event. In particular, from November 18 to 22, the "Hello Ca Mau" event in Ho Chi Minh City will continue to promote the crab brand and introduce the local potential to investors.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Ca Mau, this year’s OCOP exhibition area has 40 booths from the province and 72 booths from more than 20 other localities. In addition to tours of farming areas, there are also conferences connecting businesses and seminars to find ways to develop the crab industry.

The products on display, especially medicines and chemicals for shrimp farming, are all green and environmentally friendly. Tours are organized in Ca Mau and Bac Lieu to introduce typical ecological models, in line with the province's green development strategy.

In particular, during the festival, people who shop or enjoy food at the booths with a bill of 300,000 VND or more will receive a lucky ticket. Each night, the organizers will select 10 lucky tickets to award prizes: 1 first prize of 10 kg of crab; 1 second prize of 5 kg of Ca Mau crab; 2 third prizes, each prize of 5 kg of shrimp crackers and 6 consolation prizes, each prize of 2 kg of shrimp crackers.
