Currently, Taiwan has about 40,000 Vietnamese students studying abroad - the largest group of international students in this territory.

Prof. Dr. Tran Hoa Hien - education counselor at the education department, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Ho Chi Minh City - commented that Taiwan is always one of the top study abroad destinations that Vietnamese parents prioritize thanks to its close geographical location, cultural similarities and especially many support policies for international students.

Taiwan currently offers a variety of scholarship programs, including government scholarships, university scholarships, and academic scholarships.

In addition to full scholarships for excellent students, students who do not meet the requirements can still receive support such as tuition exemption, living expenses support, dormitory...

Notably, Taiwan is also applying a policy that allows students to stay for up to one year after graduation to find a job. At the same time, many training programs also integrate vocational skills courses and professional certificates to improve students' job competitiveness.

“The Vietnamese government is promoting and encouraging students to study information technology and semiconductors in Taiwan, which is famous for its strong development in these fields. In addition, job opportunities for students staying after graduation are also very large,” Mr. Hien emphasized.

Also at the 2025 Admission Selection Day, Dr. Mach My Trung - representative of Fooyin University of Science and Technology (Phu Anh) - said that Taiwanese universities are currently actively recruiting Vietnamese students, especially in the context of the continuous decline in the student population in Taiwan.

"Many families only have one child or even get married but do not have children, so schools really need to supplement international human resources. Fooyin University of Science and Technology alone currently has about 600 international students, of which Vietnamese students account for 400," she shared.

At Fooyin University of Science and Technology, first-year students can receive a full scholarship covering 100% of tuition and dormitory fees. From the second year onwards, if students maintain good academic performance, they will continue to receive a 50% to 100% reduction or exemption of tuition and dormitory fees.

In addition, some majors also have a living allowance of about 8 million VND/month. The entry requirements are quite flexible: high school graduation, average GPA of 6.0 or higher and financial proof of at least 3,000 USD.

Dr. Mach My Trung assessed that Vietnamese students have a serious learning spirit, many of them achieve high results and receive long-term scholarships.

"Some Taiwanese schools are now lowering their admission criteria to attract international students to stay and work, with competitive salaries," she said.

Similarly, a representative of Minh Tan University of Science and Technology said that there are currently about 2,000 Vietnamese students studying at the school.

"We offer many attractive scholarships for Vietnamese students. Candidates can look up the latest information on the website of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Ho Chi Minh City," he shared.

Taiwan currently has more than 400,000 Vietnamese workers living and working, creating a strong Vietnamese community, actively supporting international students. Some majors that are being prioritized for scholarships include: electrical and electronic engineering, semiconductor technology, artificial intelligence (AI), information technology, nursing, tourism and hotel management, etc.
