Green from the barracks

Major Nguyen Van Tuan, Secretary of the Youth Union of Regiment 4, Division 5, shared: “We believe that protecting the environment means protecting the health of ourselves and our teammates. Therefore, planting trees and creating landscapes is not just a movement activity but has become a habit and a regular awareness of the cadres and members of the unit.”

In the affiliated units, the movement “Each branch has a youth project” created a vibrant competitive atmosphere. Projects such as “Youth flower garden”, “Youth route”, “Green campus”, “Medicinal garden” were carried out one after another, creating a lively, close and environmentally friendly landscape.

Not only planting trees, the youth of Division 5 also actively research and apply green technology models into practice. One of them is the production and use of biological products EM and IMO to treat organic waste, improve soil in increasing production, and limit environmental pollution.

“In the past, we only knew how to plant trees and water them. After being taught about biological products, we learned more about how to make the environment greener, cleaner and more sustainable. Seeing the vegetable garden grow well and the soil become loose, everyone was excited,” said Private First Class Nguyen Nam Truong, a soldier of Company 6, Battalion 5, Regiment 5.

In addition, the model of “Turning waste into money” is also proving effective. Plastic bottles, scrap paper, scrap iron and steel, etc., after being sorted, will be sold to raise funds for Youth Union activities. Although the amount of money is not large, this is a creative way, both economical and educating the awareness of environmental protection for union members and young people.

Spread good deeds to the community

Not only “green in the barracks”, the youth of Division 5 also actively spread environmental actions to the surrounding community. From major campaigns such as Youth Month, Summer Youth Volunteer Campaign, World Environment Day to regular activities such as “Volunteer Saturday”, “Green Sunday”, the units have proactively sent forces to participate actively and enthusiastically.

Many practical tasks such as cleaning martyrs' cemeteries, collecting waste, dredging canals, planting trees, promoting environmental protection, etc. have been implemented synchronously and effectively and have been recognized and highly appreciated by the local authorities and people.

Comrade Le Huu Nghi, Vice Chairman of the People's Council of Hoa Hoi Commune, Tay Ninh Province, confided: "Every time there is a volunteer activity of the soldiers of Division 5, the local people are very excited and happy. The soldiers work very actively from cleaning up trash, clearing land to digging ditches, planting trees, not minding the sun and wind. The image of soldiers is getting closer and more beautiful in the eyes of the people."

The Youth Union of Division 5 coordinated with the local Youth Union to clear roads for residents.

Every action and deed of the officers and soldiers of Division 5 demonstrates the spirit of living beautifully, living responsibly towards themselves, their comrades and the community. Lieutenant Colonel Phan Hoai Quyet, Deputy Political Commissar of Division 5, affirmed: “We do not consider environmental protection activities as a short-term movement. It is part of the lifestyle and responsibility of soldiers in peacetime. Through each project and part of the work, we hope to spread the image of young soldiers who are brave, creative and dedicated - for the environment, for the community and for a sustainable future.”

From small actions such as picking up trash, taking care of trees to large-scale projects inside and outside the unit, the youth of Division 5 have been lighting up green buds of hope every day. The image of soldiers silently sowing seeds of life for the environment is a clear demonstration of the spirit of "Acting for a green environment - for a beautiful life".
