Darren Ferguson had spells with Peterborough United, including brief spells with Preston North End and Doncaster Rovers. |
The 53-year-old coach was forced to leave London Road when the team was at the bottom of League One (the third tier of the English league). Peterborough United had only 10 points after 13 rounds, 3 points behind the safety group and a goal difference of -12.
Three defeats in the last five games, including a home loss to Blackpool, were seen as the final straw, leading to the decision to sack the son of the legendary Scottish coach.
Club chairman Darragh MacAnthony confirmed: "I have decided to terminate Darren Ferguson's contract. This has not been an easy decision, but I believe it is the right one for the club. Darren is the greatest manager in the club's history and will always be part of our family."
The sacking ends Ferguson's fourth spell in charge of Peterborough at London Road, having begun his first spell in charge in 2007. The decision comes after his 678th game in charge.
Darren Ferguson had a turbulent career, mainly managing lower league clubs. He left little mark other than three Championship promotions, and helped Doncaster Rovers gain promotion to League One in 2017.
