| Awarding Certificates of Merit from the Chairman of Duc Trong District People's Committee to individuals with outstanding achievements in the "Old Age - Bright Example" Movement for the period 2021-2025 |
• ELDERLY CARE - NEIGHBORHOOD LOVE IS HIGHLY VALUED
Over the past 5 years, the work of protecting and caring for the elderly in the district has achieved many results. The monthly social protection regime for the elderly aged 80 and over without pensions has been fully implemented, with 3,060 elderly people receiving benefits. Longevity greetings and celebrations have also been solemnly organized, bringing joy and warmth to 7,167 elderly people with a total amount of 2.406 billion VND from the district budget.
The Association Fund with more than 2.4 billion VND has been effectively used by the branches to support members in difficulty to borrow capital for production and small business, contributing to improving life, eliminating hunger and reducing poverty. In particular, the "Education and Talent Promotion Fund" was established to reward children of members with excellent academic achievements, demonstrating concern for future generations.
Cultural, artistic, physical education and sports exchange activities are regularly organized on the occasion of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly (June 6) and the International Day of the Elderly (October 1), creating a joyful and exciting atmosphere for the elderly. In addition, the Association also coordinated with the Association for the Support of Poor Patients - Disabled People and Orphans of Lam Dong province to organize eye surgeries for hundreds of elderly people and provide 155 wheelchairs for disabled elderly people. During the period of 2021 - 2025, the total amount of money and goods mobilized from sponsorship sources of up to VND 2,216 billion was used to visit and give gifts to 4,411 elderly people in difficult circumstances, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic. The Association also actively promoted and mobilized funds to care for and promote the role of the elderly, reaching 1.629 billion VND, helping grassroots Associations have the conditions to visit and pay their respects when members are sick or pass away, demonstrating the beauty of the culture of village love and neighborliness.
Health care for the elderly is also given special attention. More than 3,000 elderly people receive regular health check-ups, are issued health insurance cards and over 80% of elderly people participate in health insurance. Outstanding individuals in the elderly care movement include: Ms. Nguyen Thi Huyen (Lien Nghia town), Ms. Nguyen Van Phuong (N'Thon Ha commune), Mr. Nguyen Van Van (Binh Thanh commune), Mr. Nguyen Xuan Long (Tan Thanh commune), Ms. Tran Thi Xim (Ninh Loan commune), Mr. Le Viet Dung (Da Loan commune)...
• OLDER AGE, HIGHER WILL
Elderly people in Duc Trong are not only cared for but also actively promote their roles and experiences in many fields. The patriotic emulation movement "Old age - bright example" with contents such as: "Elderly people are good at doing business", "Elderly people participate in building the political system in villages and residential groups", "Elderly people participate in protecting the environment, building new rural areas, civilized urban areas" has attracted a large number of members to participate.
The district has 675 elderly people participating in social work in important positions such as: Party cell secretary, village chief, neighborhood group leader, and head of the Front work committee. 363 elderly people are typical examples of good economic performance, including 15 farm owners and 10 business owners, contributing to guiding their children and grandchildren in developing the family economy.
The Gymnastics, Volleyball, Chess Clubs... with more than 1,000 senior citizens participating in regular activities have created a healthy, joyful environment, helping the elderly live happily, healthily, and usefully. Hundreds of senior citizens also participate in political and social organizations such as the People's Inspectorate, Community Supervision Committee, and Grassroots Mediation Team, contributing to maintaining political security and social order and safety in the locality.
The movement "Elderly people participate in environmental protection, building new rural areas and civilized urban areas" has brought about clear results. Bright examples in promoting the role of the elderly include Nguyen Thi Hoa (Phu Hoi commune), Nguyen Van Hien (Tan Hoi commune), Ka Sa Ha Kha (Da Quyn commune), Duong Cam Thach (Lien Hiep commune), Ly Van Duong (Ta Nang commune), and Nguyen Thi Khiet (Ta Hine commune).
Every year, the "Action Month for the Elderly in Vietnam" (October) is strictly implemented by the People's Committee of Duc Trong district. In 5 years, the Association of the Elderly has mobilized 1,108 billion VND, supporting 2,350 elderly people in difficult and lonely circumstances. The district's Elderly Sports Festival, cultural exchange activities, arts, and physical exercises are also regularly organized, creating a joyful and comfortable atmosphere for the elderly.
The replication of the Intergenerational Self-Help Club Model is also a bright spot. To date, Duc Trong district has established 11 clubs with more than 500 members of three generations participating in activities, bringing practical results.
The propaganda work of the Party's guidelines, policies and laws of the State, as well as the emulation movements of the Association are promoted through training sessions and document distribution. This contributes to raising awareness and exemplary behavior of the elderly in participating in building a clean and strong Party, government and mass organizations, associated with "Studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and lifestyle".
In the coming time, the Duc Trong Elderly Association will continue to strengthen the organization of the Association, do a good job of advising the Party Committee and the government, and promote the propaganda of emulation movements. In particular, timely recognition and reward of typical examples will be an important driving force for the "Old age - bright example" Movement to continue to develop strongly, contributing to building a united, civilized and sustainably developed society.
