(CLO) Adrian Simancas had a terrifying experience when a giant humpback whale swallowed him whole for a moment and then spit him out without any harm.

The incident happened last weekend in the waters of Bahia El Aguila, Strait of Magellan, off the southern coast of Chile, and the entire moment was captured on camera by his father, Dell Simancas.

While kayaking with his father, Adrian was suddenly swallowed whole by a whale that emerged from the water, swallowing both him and his yellow kayak.

"I felt like I was being lifted up, but it was too strong to be a wave," Adrian said. "When I turned around, I saw a blue and white flash across my face, and then suddenly I was sinking. I thought I was being swallowed up and there was no chance of survival."

In the tense moment, Dell, just a few meters away from his son, remained calm, filming and reassuring: "Calm down, calm down." He admitted that the scariest moment was when he could not see his son for about three seconds. "Then he suddenly surfaced without the buoy, and a second later the buoy floated up, and I saw the whale fin go by," Dell recalled.

Despite escaping the whale's mouth unscathed, Adrian was left panicking as he surfaced. "I thought I was dead," he said. "But then I became more concerned that my dad might be in danger or that I might not make it to shore and get hypothermia."

Adrian managed to stay calm and quickly grab onto his father's kayak and was safely brought to shore. The incident highlights the potential dangers of paddling in the Strait of Magellan, a region known for its adventurous activities but also fraught with risk due to low water temperatures.
