Ensuring environmental safety in livestock farming
Implementing the policy of moving livestock out of residential areas according to Resolution No. 14/2021 of the Provincial People's Council, at the end of December 2024, Ms. Nguyen Thi An (Son Lap Hamlet, Son Binh Commune, Chau Duc District) bought land and invested in building barns in the permitted area to continue raising goats. The new barn is spacious and clean, and Ms. An is currently raising a herd of 70 goats. With the current high selling price, Ms. An is expected to earn nearly 100 million VND in profit.
Ms. Nguyen Thi An said: "Although the investment cost for moving livestock out of residential areas is quite large, it is now basically stable and does not affect the surrounding living environment."
Mr. Le Dang Toan's family, An Binh hamlet, Phuoc Hoi commune, Long Dat district, rented 1 hectare of land 8km from the old place to invest in a new barn to continue raising egg-laying ducks. |
In Hoa Hiep commune, Xuyen Moc district, Mr. Tran Van Anh (Phu Tho hamlet) also relocated his livestock facility in early November 2024. The new barn is more than 1km away from the old one, invested in raising pigs and goats.
“We support the State’s policy of not allowing livestock farming in residential areas. I have pioneered the move to set an example for a better living environment. Up to now, livestock farming in the new location has provided a stable income,” Mr. Tran Van Anh shared.
Most households relocated under Resolution 14 have stabilized production in the new location. Mr. Le Dang Toan (An Binh Hamlet, Phuoc Hoi Commune, Long Dat District) relocated his livestock farm in November 2024 to a new area about 8km from the old location. With a support amount of about 10 million VND and family capital, Mr. Toan rented 1 hectare of land to build a duck farm. He is currently raising 7,000 egg-laying ducks, the flock is growing well, providing a stable income, averaging about 30 million VND/month.
Do not allow new facilities to arise in areas where livestock farming is prohibited.
According to a report from Chau Duc district, the entire district has 1,005 livestock farms that are required to relocate or cease operations under Resolution 14. Mr. Do Chi Khoi, Vice Chairman of Chau Duc District People's Committee, said that so far, only 3 farms have not relocated. The District People's Committee is directing the People's Committees of communes and towns to continue working with the owners, requesting them to urgently relocate and cease operations in May. In case of intentional non-compliance, a record will be made and handled according to the provisions of law.
In Phu My City, as of May, 587/636 livestock farms that were required to relocate under Resolution 14 have relocated or ceased operations, reaching a rate of 92.3%. Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nam, Vice Chairman of Phu My City People's Committee, said that the implementation of Resolution 14 has been supported and actively participated by the people. The environmental pollution from livestock farming has changed positively, contributing to limiting and preventing the risk of disease transmission from animals to humans.
Up to now, more than 92% of livestock households in the province have relocated or ceased operations.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, for the remaining households, the Department will continue to coordinate with districts and cities to promote propaganda and raise awareness for livestock breeders; regularly inspect and monitor, not allowing new establishments to arise in prohibited livestock breeding areas.
