Plowing is a very effective technical measure in rice cultivation, especially in the summer-autumn crop. This not only helps to eliminate pathogens and pests hiding in the soil, but also brings many other benefits. When the soil is plowed and dried, plant residues decompose better, contributing to increased fertility, making the soil loose and well-drained. This creates favorable conditions for healthy root development, rapid rice growth, and fewer pests and diseases. Currently, farmers in Ha Tinh are urgently preparing the land. Agricultural service cooperatives are coordinating with machine owners and farmers to mobilize means to ensure the proposed plan. After a long period of rain, farmers in communes and towns in Can Loc district have mobilized maximum resources and machinery to prepare the land. According to data from the district's Department of Agriculture and Environment, by the end of May 27, the entire district had harvested nearly 90% of spring rice (8,123/9,157.5 hectares) and started preparing the land for the 2025 summer-autumn crop with more than 685 hectares. "After harvesting 2 hectares of rice fields, our family plowed to prepare for the summer-autumn crop. This year, the land preparation process was done well, so the rice fields are softer and easier to plant. I am focusing on getting water and leveling the ground to sow 2 hectares of Nep 98 and Bac Thinh varieties. With the success of the spring crop, we have high expectations for the upcoming summer-autumn crop," said Mr. Nguyen Viet Sy in Nghen town (Can Loc). With heavy rain forecast, people in Can Loc district are urgently harvesting the remaining fields, overcoming the fallen areas that cannot be harvested by machine due to the recent heavy rain.
People are harvesting and plowing the land to "race" against the unpredictable weather. In the communes of Khanh Vinh Yen, Thuong Loc, Quang Loc, Kim Song Truong... people have been busy going to the fields to plow the land for the summer-autumn crop. In the photo: People of Kim Song Truong commune urgently overcome fallen rice and plow right after the harvest.
The abundant water in the fields is convenient for farmers in the process of land preparation. After the fields are plowed and harrowed, farmers make ridges, create drainage ditches and smooth the surface to prepare for planting. Joining the bustling atmosphere of the sound of machines and the lively chatter in each field, farmers in Bong Son field, Thong Nhat village (Ich Hau commune, Thach Ha district) are busy preparing the land after harvesting the spring crop. According to a report from the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Thach Ha district, up to now, the whole district has harvested more than 74% of the spring rice (6,051/8,162.8 hectares). In localities such as Hong Loc, Ich Hau, Phu Luu..., people are busy preparing the land to prepare as soon as possible for the summer-autumn crop, avoiding unexpected natural disasters.
"After several days of rain, land preparation has been quite favorable. After harvesting the spring crop, the family must immediately plow the land to limit the growth of weeds and destroy the source of pests and diseases. With 2 hectares of rice fields, the family has rented a machine to plow 80% of the area. We are striving to complete the plowing by the end of this week," said Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuc, a resident of Thong Nhat village. The Ich Hau commune government has supported people to connect with more than 10 cage plows, operating at full capacity so that the fields in the area can soon enter the sowing stage. "The locality has mobilized people to harvest spring rice and prepare the land for the summer-autumn crop. We have made plans with the village chiefs to closely coordinate with the machine owners. In particular, after the recent rains, the Ich Hau commune government has promoted and advised people to build embankments in the area and plots to retain water for convenient land preparation. Currently, the whole commune has more than 50 hectares of land prepared for the summer-autumn crop," said Mr. Tran Kim Quy - Vice Chairman of the Ich Hau commune People's Committee. Many machine owners are also rushing to serve people in the fields. Every day, I "receive orders" from 30-35 households, serving from 6am to 11pm every day with the goal of speeding up the planting process for people. The price of land preparation by machine is currently around 100,000 VND/sao for the first batch," said Mr. Ho Sy Lam - machine owner in Thong Nhat village (Ich Hau commune).
Currently, the weather conditions are gradually improving, localities need to support farmers in harvesting spring rice. In addition, resources should be focused on dredging the drainage system for rice areas flooded by the recent rains. Take advantage of the opportunity to dry the harvested rice to reduce damage.
For localities that have finished harvesting spring rice, it is necessary to prepare the land for summer-autumn crop production. Currently, the water source in the fields is favorable for land preparation, so people need to take advantage of this opportunity to deploy production on schedule and according to the set plan.
This summer-autumn crop, the whole province has planted more than 45,000 hectares. Currently, localities across the province are mobilizing maximum machinery and human resources, implementing synchronous solutions to clean the fields, and preparing the land for 3,215 hectares. For areas contaminated with alum, or areas recently affected by flooding, it is necessary to implement good measures such as liming, acid washing, and alum reduction to limit damage right from the beginning of the crop.
