Vietnamese people have mastered the technology to produce Samsung's highest-end phone line - Lang Son Electronic Newspaper

“In 36 years, since producing the first mobile phone in 1988, Samsung has produced nearly 6.3 billion products globally. Of which, in a short time, the SEVT factory in Thai Nguyen produced more than 1 billion products. If including the two factories in Bac Ninh and Thai Nguyen, the total output has reached more than 2 billion products” - Mr. Park Sung Ho - General Director of Samsung Electronics Vietnam - Thai Nguyen shared when talking to reporters. According to him, this remarkable development is thanks to the support of the Government and most importantly, the contribution of Vietnamese workers.

Vietnamese people completely master technology

There are not many companies in the world that can completely self-supply components for phones like Samsung. According to Mr. Park Sung Ho, “In addition to mobile phones, we also produce core components to produce a phone. All important components to create a phone are produced at Samsung factories.”

Notably, the two most advanced foldable phones with integrated AI functions, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6, which Samsung has just launched, are also being manufactured in Vietnam.

Directly involved in the production of these products, Mr. Duong Ngoc Duy, Head of Production Department of Samsung Electronic Vietnam Thai Nguyen Co., Ltd. (SEVT) shared, “In May 2024, we received information that we would produce the strategic model Galaxy Z Flip6. We and the departments in the SEVT factory urgently prepared the conditions to ensure the best production, on-time delivery and strict quality assurance of the new product line.”

Mr. Duy proudly said that, like previous new product lines, Vietnamese people needed a lot of support from foreign experts. They came to work directly at SEVT to transfer technology, transfer production processes and product quality control processes, and support and set up production lines. But now, with the spirit of continuous learning, Vietnamese people have completely mastered advanced technology and applied it to mass production lines.

If in the past, Samsung Vietnam only produced products for certain markets, now SEVT in particular and Samsung Vietnam in general have been assigned to produce products for all markets around the world, including the Korean market and demanding markets such as Japan, or for contracts with US carriers, famous fashion brands such as Thombrowne, Maison...

That has gradually affirmed the position and role of Vietnamese people, pioneering in the production of high-end models of Samsung Group.

“I think the parent company in Korea now has complete trust in Samsung Vietnam in producing the most high-end strategic products,” said Mr. Duy.

"Secret" "retaining workers" team

In order for Vietnamese people to be able to fully master such technology, the human factor has always been focused on and put first by Samsung.

“Samsung Vietnam is one of the largest mobile phone manufacturing bases in the world, our employees are the top employees in the world, so we always consider human values ​​as number 1.” – Mr. Park Sung Ho said.

The philosophy of people being number 1 is demonstrated through efforts in building a safe working environment and providing good welfare regimes for employees to help them feel secure in accompanying the company throughout the past time.

According to Mr. Nguyen Duy Danh - Head of SEVT Human Resources Department: "When building human resources policies, we not only ensure absolute compliance with labor laws, conventions and international standards of which Samsung is a member (such as the RBA/JAC responsible business alliance), but also aim to become an enterprise with the leading overall remuneration regime in the field of electronics manufacturing in Vietnam."

Accordingly, in addition to implementing a competitive salary regime with the lowest monthly salary being 1.5 times higher than the minimum wage as prescribed, the company still conducts annual salary adjustments and maintains full bonus regimes even during the Covid-19 pandemic and when the economy has faced many difficulties in recent years. The company also focuses on building policies to promote employees' long-term commitment to the Company such as: Issuing clear promotion policies and roadmaps, transparent appointment regulations and bonus policies linked to seniority milestones from 5 to 25 years.

In addition, Samsung Vietnam is also active in building diverse welfare policies, taking care of all aspects of employees' lives, including some policies such as: Operating 107 bus routes with 820 high-quality 45-seat buses to transport employees to factories in Bac Ninh, Thai Nguyen and Ho Chi Minh City; Providing about 117,000 meals/day for employees at Samsung branches in Vietnam; Providing modern dormitories for more than 18,000 employees...

A superior policy that Samsung can be said to be the first and only enterprise to implement up to now is the policy to support female production employees on maternity leave, according to which the Company creates conditions for pregnant employees to be able to take maternity leave as desired from the time of pregnancy until receiving maternity benefits, with a support level of 50% of monthly salary and participation in social insurance.

To date, SEVT has been in operation for nearly 11 years with an average seniority of 8.3 years for its workforce and an average seniority of 9.4 years for its employees at SEV (Samsung Electronics Vietnam - Samsung factory in Bac Ninh). This is a clear demonstration of the success of SEVT in particular and Samsung Vietnam in general in retaining employees over the years, despite recent economic fluctuations and difficulties.
