(CLO) Researcher Nguyen Dinh Tu, 104 years old this year, traveled from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi to receive the National Book Award by train.


On the evening of November 29, the 7th National Book Awards 2024 ceremony took place at the Hanoi Opera House.

Attending the award ceremony were comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia, Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Propaganda Department; comrades of the Party Central Committee: Le Quoc Minh, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, President of the Vietnam Journalists Association ; Nguyen Manh Hung, Minister of Information and Communications; leaders of ministries, departments, branches, central and local agencies, along with the participation of many authors, translators, scientists, publishing units, book lovers...

In 2024, 51/57 publishers had books participating in the Award (10 more publishers than the 6th National Book Award). Number of books participating in the 7th National Book Award: 372 titles and book series, including 455 books (60 more titles and book series, 20 books than the 6th National Book Award).

This year's award also has innovations with the expansion of the list of nominees; the addition of the Readers' Favorite Book Award category; the announcement of nominated books that have won awards after passing two preliminary and final rounds; the organization of activities to honor authors, translators, publishers and communication activities to promote and disseminate books after winning awards.

Through the selection rounds of the Preliminary Council, the Final Council, the National Book Award Council decided to award the 7th National Book Award in 2024 to 58 book series and books with 59 Awards including: 3 A Awards; 10 B Awards; 21 C Awards; 21 Encouragement Awards and 4 Readers' Favorite Book Awards (1 book won 2 Award categories).

3 A Prizes of the Award were awarded to the book "Gia Dinh - Saigon - Ho Chi Minh City: Long Mile of History (1698-2020)" (2 volumes), author Nguyen Dinh Tu (Ho Chi Minh City General Publishing House); the book "Handbook of Diagnosis and Treatment of Internal Medicine" by Associate Professor, Doctor, Doctor Dao Xuan Co (Editor-in-Chief); "Collection of Military Writers - Proceedings - Works" (5 volumes) of the Army Literature Magazine.

Researcher Nguyen Dinh Tu, 104 years old, traveled from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi to receive the award by train. This is the second time he has won the highest prize at the National Book Awards.

The book series "Gia Dinh - Saigon - Ho Chi Minh City: Long Mile of History (1698-2020)" is considered a valuable handbook, helping readers to look up and research deeply about the history and development of Gia Dinh - Saigon - Ho Chi Minh City.

Based on reliable scientific sources, Mr. Tu systematizes historical events and activities in fields such as administration, economy, society, culture, education, health, religion, and sports from 1698-2020.

This book series has been Mr. Tu's passion for the past 20 years. To complete this work, he spent a lot of time collecting documents from sources to ensure accuracy, in which, many French documents had to be translated to help the book have more value for readers.

The 7th National Book Awards also awarded for the first time the category “Readers’ Favorite Book” to The Teacher by Nguyen Chi Vinh; “The Story of the Seagull and the Cat Who Taught Her to Fly” by Luis Sepúlveda; “Nameless Summer” by Nguyen Nhat Anh; “How Much Is Youth Worth?” by Rosie Nguyen.

This is a special award because for the first time, readers and press agencies are involved in the process of nominating impressive works.

The National Book Awards are organized and awarded annually by the Central Propaganda Department, the Ministry of Information and Communications, and the Vietnam Publishing Association and the Department of Publishing, Printing and Distribution are the direct implementing agencies.

The National Book Award is held to select books with high quality content, strong influence in society, and positive contributions to the construction, protection and development of the country.

The books submitted to the National Council for consideration are divided into 6 categories: Political and economic books; Social sciences and humanities books; Natural sciences and technology books; Culture, literature and arts books; Children's books; Books loved by readers.
