FAMOUS AT 16 YEARS OLD, WITH HIS DEbut SONG
The opening song of the music night - Betel and Areca was written by musician Phan Huynh Dieu when he was 16 years old. He was inspired after watching the play Tuc Luy (poem by Chau Vinh and The Lu, music by Luu Huu Phuoc) performed by The Lu troupe in Da Nang . With the desire to write a musical with such a fairy tale color, even though he had only learned music a little, at the age of 16, he still dared to write Betel and Areca with a mandolin (this is also the instrument he used to compose songs that left an impression later)... Initially, the musician's intention was only for his Wolf Cub troupe to sing during campfire nights in the Scouting movement, but unexpectedly when it leaked out, Betel and Areca brought him great success; listeners were even more surprised when the author of this loving, sorrowful, and profound song was only 16 years old.
Those who listen to Phan Huynh Dieu's music, whether they are passionate about revolutionary songs or imbued with love songs... still mention the song that marked the name of the Quang musician in the Vietnamese modern music scene: Betel and Areca . Although it is different from the epic poems of the same period (Van Cao with Thien Thai , Le Thuong with Hon Vong Phu ...), Betel and Areca by the 16-year-old young musician still has a deep position, being evaluated as a highlight in the epic poems of modern music at that time. Many people even affirm: Without Betel and Areca, it would not be Phan Huynh Dieu! Perhaps because with this song, the young man has shaped his musical style from the beginning, so that throughout the length of his musical path, he followed and defined himself: Musician of love.
With the success of many profound lyrical songs, Phan Huynh Dieu's name is also mentioned as a person who gives wings to the longevity of love through music. He is an "ageless" musician, continuing his composing career when he is "old". And even though today, when musician Phan Huynh Dieu is no longer here, his songs still live and are loved by the public, welcomed by the passionate, passionate and youthful love songs like Phan Huynh Dieu's soul when he was alive.

LOVE SONGS ACROSS THE LENGTH OF THE COUNTRY
Phan Huynh Dieu is considered one of the musicians whose compositions are closely linked to the history of the country. Although musician Phan Huynh Dieu was born and raised in Da Nang, his original hometown was Dien Ban, Quang Nam. Later, he chose Ho Chi Minh City as his second hometown. Musician Phan Huynh Dieu grew up in the folk songs and charming folk songs of Quang Nam. With beloved Quang Nam, the songs he wrote seemed to come from his heart to express his deep love for his homeland; so that over the past decades, many people have listened to and loved Quang because of the intensity like "pink peach wine that makes you drunk without even tasting it" in Phan Huynh Dieu's music, and loved Quang because of the passion and affection he conveyed.
But, when listening to Shadow of the Kơ-nia tree , the song he wrote during 6 years of working in the Southern and Central Highlands battlefields, he used the Central Highlands folk music to create a deep, lyrical song, sometimes passionately nostalgic, sometimes urgent, sometimes echoing, only then did he realize that he had to love and understand the great forest deeply to be able to write such beautiful melodies. And with Anh o dau song, em cuoi song, the overflowing, sweet melodies of the Western river water and folk songs permeated every breath for the musician to write this simple and sweet song that warms the heart.
Even though he writes about the land where he was born and raised, the land where he is attached to and fights... it is still easy to notice the passionate love in each melody he writes. That love is expressed through his masterful ability to use regional folk sounds, along with his delicate ability to choose poems to set to music, which has helped him create works that leave a deep impression not only on his musical path but also on Vietnamese music. It can be seen that the love songs of musician Phan Huynh Dieu are love that has developed over the years. From Betel and Areca - a loyal love imbued with folk songs and fairy tales; Songs through two resistance wars to defend the country , the Liberation Army - a steadfast love, "swearing never to retreat" when the Fatherland was in danger in the early days of the resistance; Winter Soldiers; March of the Day and the Night, Life is Still Beautiful, Threads of Memories and Love, Shadow of the Kơ nia Tree, You at the Head of the River, I at the End of the River, Night Stars, Where Are You Tonight ... Through many dangers of bullets and bombs, ups and downs dividing the country, still keeping the faith and love; or Boat and the Sea, Last Autumn Love Letter - songs considered immortal about love between couples... all still shine with faith and optimism in the bright future of the fate of people and the country. And almost none of his works were written in a state of depression or disappointment. He once said: "I only compose music when I feel happy and optimistic because I want to convey that to the listener. The melody never stops ringing in my head, my heart never stops loving. Now that I'm old and don't have a lover anymore, I love life, love nature...".
Indeed, it is not difficult to see that in Phan Huynh Dieu's music, most of his songs written during the two resistance wars for national defense are expressed in lyrical, poignant melodies, quite different from many other musicians of the same period. These are compositions praising love for the homeland, love between couples, war and waiting, loyalty. Whether the subject is about war or loss, passionate love between couples or the sadness of separation, Phan Huynh Dieu's music still exudes an optimistic spirit, his love songs with lyrical, refined melodies are always sweet, gentle and profound. Because for him, "Life is still so beautiful. Love is still so beautiful!" seems to be the truth.

AND LOVE LAST IN LIFE
Musician Phan Hong Ha recounted his memories of his father with many emotions: "My brothers and I are lucky and happy to be his children. There are many things that we can remember forever about our father, but when we mention him, we probably can't hold back our tears. We always remember the period from 1964 to 1970, when he went to the battlefield for work, and we had to evacuate. We often climbed jackfruit trees to play, looked to the South and sang "Love in the Leaves of My Father" with endless longing. As for me personally, there is a memory, when I was in Hanoi, my house had a cupboard, with my father's things in it. At that time, my father was in the battlefield. I still took out my father's clothes to inhale the scent of my father that remained in the clothes and cried when I remembered my father. And until now, thinking back, I am still very emotional. For me personally, I will never forget those profound memories".
As one of the first singers to sing the song "Where are you tonight" on the battlefields, singer Thuc An said: "When I was a young singer, the songs of musician Phan Huynh Dieu followed me to all the battlefields of Khe Sanh, the ancient citadel of Quang Tri, to artillery positions, army units, remote islands or deep, remote forests... I went everywhere with Phan Huynh Dieu's songs and was loved at that time. The elders have a saying "Kien ky thanh bat kien ky hinh". I did not know who musician Phan Huynh Dieu was except for his wonderful songs. Until after the country's reunification, I retired and followed my children to live in Ho Chi Minh City, 15, 16 years ago, during a meeting with former military artists, I still sang the song "Where are you tonight" , but when I finished singing, a tall, thin, skinny man brought me a flower. He said: "Thank you Thuc An for singing my song." me”. At that time, I just knew that it was musician Phan Huynh Dieu, a person I respected very much but had not had the opportunity to meet. The musician told me one sentence before everyone else: “Thuc An asked where I was tonight? Tonight I was at Cu Xa Bac Hai (his private residence)”. Besides the great joy of meeting him, the musician composed songs that he had sung for over 50 years. I used to wonder and understand why a musician had such wonderful, famous songs? It was because, besides being talented, the musician was also a cheerful, youthful and very sincere person".
“Only you and I, with love remaining” - Through his lifetime works, musician Phan Huynh Dieu sends the message: In this world, everything will disappear, but love is endless, love is the most beautiful thing, the only thing that remains. A musical night portraying the talented musician Phan Huynh Dieu can hardly express all of his musical path as well as everyone's feelings for him. For music lovers, happily standing and watching, clapping, singing with the singer when the auditorium is full - something that is hard to find nowadays. For those who can memorize his songs, passionately singing along with the singer and also those who are surprised and ask each other: "Oh, is this song also by musician Phan Huynh Dieu?" - when hearing a song that they have memorized for a long time but accidentally do not know the name of the musician...
I think that is happiness for the composer and happiness for his music lovers. And that happiness, not only 100 years of leaving a mark in this life, I believe will last forever.
