On the evening of August 22 (local time), the Democratic Party Convention entered its final session, with the highlight being Vice President Kamala Harris's presidential nomination acceptance speech. Like many previous election events, the US vice president opened her speech by citing her own life story: The daughter of two former international students from India and Jamaica who decided to pursue the "American dream", and grew up in a middle-class family in Oakland, California. She affirmed: "When I was a prosecutor, before each case, I spoke not only on behalf of the victim but also on behalf of the American people. Every day in the courtroom, I proudly stood before the judge and said five words: Kamala Harris for the people. I want to emphasize that throughout my political career, I have served only one client: the people. Representing the people, representing all Americans regardless of party, gender, language, on behalf of everyone who has ever begun this incredible journey here, I accept your nomination to become president of the United States. I want you to know that I promise to be a president for all Americans." Ms. Harris's sharing received a strong response from the audience. Riding on the momentum, the Democratic candidate continued to find ways to put Trump in opposition: "In many ways, Donald Trump is a non-serious person, but the consequences of his leaving the White House are very serious. Think of the power he will have in his hands when the Supreme Court has just declared him immune from prosecution for all public decisions. Imagine Donald Trump no longer being bound by anything and the way he uses the power of the President of the United States not to improve your life or national security. Instead, he uses them to serve his only customer: himself."
Fighting for the middle class

Harris spent the rest of her speech highlighting the contrast between her policy views and Trump's. "We're moving into the future with a strong middle class," she declared. "This has always been the foundation of America's success, and strengthening the middle class has been a defining goal of my presidency." The Democratic candidate, on the other hand, insisted that Trump didn't care about the middle class. Instead, he would seek to benefit himself and the upper class. "He'll give (big businesses) tax breaks again, adding $5 trillion to the national debt. Instead, he'll introduce a national sales tax that will increase the cost of living for middle-class households by nearly $4,000 a year. I'll cut taxes for the middle class, and that will benefit more than 100 million people," Harris said.
In addition, she also continued to criticize Mr. Trump on a number of controversial issues such as abortion rights, immigration...
Warm West, Cold North
Regarding foreign policy, Ms. Harris continued to criticize Mr. Trump's views that could weaken the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and his somewhat sympathetic statements towards Russian President Vladimir Putin. She emphasized her role in calling for international support for Ukraine in the early days of "Russia's special military campaign", and declared that she would continue to stand side by side with Kiev and NATO if elected president. Regarding the issue of tensions in the Middle East - an aspect where she is expected to leave a mark, the US vice president emphasized her support for Israel's "right to self-defense" and criticized Hamas, Iran... However, she did not forget to mention the humanitarian disaster happening to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip: "What has happened in Gaza in the past 10 months is terrible. Too many innocent lives have been taken away. People are hungry, desperate and have to flee from place to place. The level of suffering is terrible". Regarding the issue of tensions with China, Ms. Harris only mentioned it once during her speech. However, she clearly expressed a tough stance on the North Korea issue, showing that US-North Korea relations will hardly improve if she wins the election: "I will not befriend 'dictators and tyrants' like Mr. Kim Jong Un, who are looking forward to Mr. Trump's victory."
