The men ordered the journalists to hand over their equipment, Vostal told US Press Freedom Tracker via email.
Vostal said more than $19,000 worth of equipment was stolen, including the team’s video camera, a GoPro, multiple camera lenses, external batteries, SD cards, microphones, and tripods. Video footage of the city’s coverage and interviews was lost.
The journalists quickly called the police and filed a report but were forced to purchase replacement equipment to return and cover the APEC Summit Week in San Francisco at the time.
The San Francisco Police Department told the San Francisco Standard that its robbery unit is investigating and has not released any further information.
