Bustling North-South Expressway construction site on year-end day

On the last day of 2024, the North-South Expressway construction site recorded that the contractor was actively urging workers to complete the project. There was even a plan to "skip the ceremony" to speed up construction so that the project could be completed on schedule.

On December 31, at the North-South Eastern Expressway project phase 2021-2025 through Ha Tinh, Ham Nghi - Vung Ang section (in Cam Xuyen district, Ha Tinh), Tuoi Tre Online recorded dozens of workers busily constructing the Le Duan overpass.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh (residing in Cam Due commune, Cam Xuyen district) said that she applied for a job as a steel tyer at the project from July 2023. The job is not too tiring and is suitable for women, so she has been working there ever since. Her daily wage is 350,000 VND, a stable source of income for her to take care of her 4 children's education.

“Working here is close to home, providing a source of income and convenient childcare, so many women in the village come here to apply for jobs. As a manual laborer working on a large project right in my hometown, I feel proud and work hard, contributing my efforts to the project's early completion,” Ms. Thanh confided.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Tien - Deputy Commander of Le Duan Bridge Construction Site (Xuan Truong Construction Enterprise) said that Le Duan Bridge is 920m long, with a bridge width of nearly 17m, and is the longest bridge among the Eastern expressway bridges in the 2021-2025 period passing through Ha Tinh province.

These days, there are always more than 60 technical staff and workers on site. Many of them are local people who apply for seasonal jobs.

“To meet the schedule for the bridge opening at the end of December 2024 (lunar calendar), we have to organize overtime to complete the concrete pouring of the bridge deck as soon as possible. Therefore, tomorrow is New Year's Day but we will still work as usual,” said Mr. Tien.

According to Mr. Nguyen Khac Trung - Director of the North - South Expressway Project Management Board, Ham Nghi - Vung Ang section, currently the construction work on the Ham Nghi - Vung Ang expressway has reached about 73%.

“But recently due to the cold rain, the road surfacing work has been delayed a bit. Now, taking advantage of the clear and dry weather, contractors are focusing on the construction of the roadbed foundation and asphalt paving. Trying to speed up the progress, according to the plan on New Year's Day, January 1, the North-South Expressway construction site will still be operating normally and will not be closed,” Mr. Trung informed.
