On September 20 (local time), on the occasion of attending the High-level General Debate of the 78th United Nations General Assembly in New York, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with leaders of many countries.
Here, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh proposed that countries cooperate with Vietnam in areas of common strengths such as: Education - training, science and technology, health; especially economic - trade cooperation to create more momentum for strong development of bilateral relations. With leaders of European countries, the Prime Minister proposed to soon complete the ratification of the Vietnam - EU Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) to create momentum to promote investment relations on the basis of equality, mutual benefit, and facilitate businesses investing and doing business in Vietnam. At the same time, the Prime Minister also asked European countries to support the European Commission (EC) to soon remove the "yellow card" on IUU exports of Vietnam. The Prime Minister's proposals were welcomed by leaders of the countries and they made commitments to cooperate for mutual development. At the meeting with Romanian President Klaus Iohannis, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that the two sides increase contacts and delegation exchanges, especially at high levels, and continue to create breakthroughs in trade and investment so that the bilateral relationship develops commensurate with the potential and advantages of each country. At the same time, the two sides need to cooperate and share experiences in sustainable management of the Mekong Delta and the Danube River. President Klaus Iohannis was pleased to appreciate the good development of the cooperative relationship between the two countries in recent times, especially in economic and trade cooperation. The President affirmed that Romania will strive to further promote cooperation in all aspects with Vietnam, especially in the fields of economy, trade, tourism , and people-to-people exchange to match the development momentum of the bilateral relationship. Meeting with Polish President Andrzej Duda, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to and wishes to strengthen the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Poland, a priority partner in Central and Eastern Europe. The head of the Vietnamese Government proposed that the two sides expand bilateral cooperation in all fields and hoped that the Polish Government would continue to create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community in Poland to live, work stably and integrate well into the host country. Polish President Andrzej Duda said that the two countries still have a lot of potential for cooperation, including in areas such as education and training, information technology, healthcare, pharmaceuticals and agriculture. He expressed his hope that the Vietnamese Government would actively support Polish enterprises to invest in Vietnam. At the meeting with Slovenian President Natasa Pirc Musar, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to and wishes to strengthen the traditional friendship with Slovenia, one of Vietnam's priority partners in Europe. The Slovenian President positively acknowledged Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's proposals and affirmed that Slovenia always considers Vietnam as one of its priority partners in Southeast Asia. Slovenia will promote multifaceted cooperation with Vietnam and suggested that the two sides strengthen cooperation in a number of potential areas such as labor, science and technology, water resources protection, pharmaceuticals, and environmental protection. Meeting with Finnish President Sauli Niinisto, the head of the Vietnamese Government proposed that the two countries promote the exchange of delegations at all levels, especially at high levels, to create momentum for bilateral cooperation to become more in-depth, substantive and effective. The Prime Minister suggested that the two countries continue to promote trade and investment cooperation to create more momentum for strong development of bilateral relations and wished to expand the export of agricultural products, footwear, textiles and other goods of Vietnam to the Finnish market. The Finnish President highly appreciated the development of cooperation between the two countries in recent times, especially in the context of the implementation of the Vietnam - EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA). President Sauli Niinisto hopes that the two countries will not only continue to promote bilateral cooperation but also work together to act as a bridge to promote cooperation with ASEAN, the EU and between ASEAN and the EU. At the meeting with First Secretary - President of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that the Party, State, Government, National Assembly and people of Vietnam will never forget Cuba's wholehearted support for Vietnam's national liberation struggle. Vietnam always values, preserves and is determined to further deepen the traditional relationship of solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba, standing side by side in supporting the just revolutionary cause of the Cuban people. The Prime Minister reaffirmed Vietnam's consistent stance of not supporting and requesting the lifting of unilateral embargo measures against Cuba. The head of the Vietnamese Government said that the two sides need to continue to cooperate closely to strengthen trade and investment relations, bringing economic relations on par with the good political relations between the two countries. President Miguel Díaz-Canel affirmed that the Cuba-Vietnam relationship is a beautiful symbol of comradeship and close friendship, which has been cultivated by President Fidel Castro, President Ho Chi Minh and generations of leaders of the two countries over many periods. President Miguel Díaz-Canel affirmed that he will direct ministries and sectors to coordinate more closely with Vietnam to promote economic, investment and trade relations, especially agricultural cooperation, and ensure food security. During a meeting with Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that Thailand is an important and reliable partner of Vietnam in the region. The Prime Minister proposed opening the market and creating more favorable conditions for businesses of both sides, striving to soon reach a trade turnover of 25 billion USD in a balanced and mutually beneficial direction. Vietnam and Thailand will strengthen cooperation in education - training, tourism, people-to-people exchange; continue to cooperate closely in multilateral mechanisms, especially ASEAN. Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin agreed with the opinions and proposals of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and expressed his wish to further strengthen cooperation with Vietnam in trade, investment, tourism, infrastructure and local connectivity. In particular, Vietnam is considering opening more direct flights to Thailand.
