Fruits rich in vitamin C are good for people with colds.

Doctor Huynh Tan Vu, lecturer of Traditional Medicine Department, University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Ho Chi Minh City, shared that fruits are a source of vitamin C, helping to replenish energy and strengthen the immune system. When having a cold, vitamin C supplementation is essential. Fruits rich in vitamin C include pears, grapes, citrus fruits, watermelon, etc.

Pear

Pears contain a lot of calcium, phosphorus, iron, carotene, vitamins B1, B2, C... Eating pears regularly is effective in treating high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, and acute bronchitis.

You can use a fresh pear, cut the stem end into a lid, remove all the seeds, add 3 grams of fritillary bulb, cover the lid, insert a bamboo toothpick to tighten the lid, put it in a bowl, and steam for 1-2 hours. This remedy is effective in treating colds and coughs.

However, Dr. Vu noted that because pears are cold, people with stomachaches and diarrhea should not eat them. Do not eat crushed pears to avoid intestinal diseases.

Lemon

The outer green peel of the lemon contains essential oils, each fruit gives about 0.5 ml of essential oils (90-95% of lemon essential oils are terpene compounds). The white peel contains pectin. Lemon juice contains 80-82% water, 5-7% citric acid, 1-2% citrate acid, calcium, potassium, a little ethyl citrate and malic acid. In 100 g of fresh lemon juice solution there are 65 mg of vitamin C, vitamins B1 and riboflavin.

Some studies show that lemons are rich in vitamin C and flavonoid antioxidants (polymethoxylated flavones in lemons are 20 times more than in regular fruits and vegetables). Therefore, lemons have the function of detoxifying, protecting blood vessels, strengthening the immune system and limiting the harmful effects of free radicals that slow down aging.

When coughing up a lot of phlegm, you can use 2 thinly sliced lemons, add a little rock sugar, steam and eat.

Although lemon juice has many benefits, Dr. Vu notes that overusing lemon juice can cause stomach ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux, making mouth ulcers worse (the acid in lemon will make ulcers worse and more painful), headaches, dehydration, and excess vitamin C (causing nausea, upset stomach, abdominal pain, diarrhea, etc.).

Orange

Oranges belong to the citrus family. Every 100 g of oranges contains 87.6 g of water, 104 micrograms of carotene - an antioxidant vitamin, 30 mg of vitamin C, 93 mg of potassium, 26 mg of calcium, 9 mg of magnesium, 0.3 g of fiber, 4.5 mg of sodium, 7 mg of chromium, 20 mg of phosphorus, 0.32 mg of iron, and an energy value of 48 kcal. Contains no fat or cholesterol.

The high vitamin C content in oranges can help stimulate the production of white blood cells. Thereby strengthening the immune system and helping the body fight disease. Oranges are proven to be a fruit with anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, anti-coagulant and strong antioxidant effects. Orange juice also contains vitamin A, copper, folate and thiamine (vitamin B1) and other nutrients that help the immune system function at its best.

Watermelon

A watermelon contains 49.7% water, 0.6% protein, 1.3% glucid, 03% cellulose, and also Fe, P, carotene, vitamin B1, B2, PP, and vitamin C.

Watermelon has a cooling effect.

According to traditional medicine, watermelon rind is sweet, slightly cold, has a cooling and diuretic effect, and is used in cases of high blood pressure, painful urination, fever, kidney inflammation, etc.

To cure colds and sore throats, use 30g of watermelon rind, add 2 bowls of water, boil down to 1 bowl. Divide into 2 doses and drink twice a day.
