Special notes when applying to Hanoi Medical University

Today, April 19, nearly 1,000 high school students and their parents from many localities in the North visited and experienced some locations on the campus of Hanoi Medical University in the 5th One Day in HMU program. According to Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huu Tu, Principal of Hanoi Medical University, the school is the cradle of Vietnamese medicine, most of the medical universities across the country were formerly branches of Hanoi Medical University.

Professor Tu affirmed that career orientation is important for high school students. He said that when choosing to study medicine, candidates need to determine that it will be 365 days multiplied by 6 years or multiplied by 9 years of attachment to Hanoi Medical University. "I say this so that students know that the path to studying medicine is very long and very difficult. However, only then will it be worthy of a humanistic profession, especially a profession that is trusted and relied upon by society: doctor. Therefore, students should nurture their aspirations and ambitions and try to study well. Students in grades 10 and 11 still have a lot of time to orient and review to make a choice. Grade 12 students only have a short time left to make a decision, hopefully a day of experience at school will strengthen their belief and will to be determined to pass the school entrance exam," Professor Tu said.

He hopes to welcome many new students from among the high school students present today to participate in the school experience next August.

Dr. Nguyen Thi Mai Huong, Lecturer of Psychology, Hanoi Medical University, shares her journey from student to university student. Ms. Huong believes that the value of each student comes from their family. Family is the first school of compassion.

Standing at the threshold of choosing a career to enter university, if students do not start from love, on the road ahead, they will have to stop many times to ponder the reason why they started.

Each major will bring its own experiences to students.

According to Ms. Huong, on the first day of school, students will have to answer the question of what made them choose this career. For most students, the choice of career comes from love in the family. Maybe in the family, parents do not work in a profession related to the student's choice, but the value that career brings, the love parents put into that career will determine the outlook on life and the perspective on the career that their children choose. The choice of children may not depend on the career that their parents are doing, but the parents' behavior towards the career will help their children continue that behavior.

Ms. Huong affirmed that studying medicine is very hard and difficult. The love of medical students is not romantic but lies in the ideal desire, creating the inner motivation of each person.

With many contexts, family and social circumstances will guide students' career choices.

Factors that influence students' career choices include understanding their own abilities, interests and passions; personal values; and career opportunities. But sometimes, the choice does not follow these factors because students are not advised or supported, but rely on crowd psychology.

With her sharing, Dr. Nguyen Thi Mai Huong affirmed that ability determines the candidate's chance of being admitted to medical school, while love and passion are the motivation for students to stick with and strive on the path to becoming a doctor.

This year, Hanoi Medical University plans to enroll two new majors: Medical Imaging Technology and Social Work, bringing the total number of majors to 15. The school plans to enroll students using the following methods: direct admission according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training , considering high school graduation exam scores, combining high school graduation exam scores and foreign language certificates (only applicable to majors in Medicine, Dentistry - Maxillofacial Surgery), and considering the results of the Hanoi National University's competency assessment exam.

In 2024, the benchmark score for the Medical major of Hanoi Medical University is 28.27/30 points. Next is the Dentistry major with a benchmark score ranging from 25.29/30 to 27.67/30 points, depending on the admission methods. The Psychology major, which will start enrolling students in 2024, has a benchmark score ranging from 25.46/30 to 28.83/30 points, depending on the admission methods.
