
Vietnam's best performance at a SEA Games is 205 gold medals in 2021 on home soil. The next positions are 158 gold medals (in 2003), 136 gold medals (in 2023), 98 gold medals (in 2019) and 96 gold medals (in 2011).
After 18 Games, Vietnam has won a total of 1,269 gold medals, 1,097 silver medals and 1,221 bronze medals, ranking fourth in Southeast Asia, after Malaysia (1,376 - 1,363 - 1,872), Indonesia (1,982 - 1,876 - 1,970) and Thailand (2,453 - 2,127 - 2,204).
This year, the Vietnamese Sports Delegation participating in the 33rd SEA Games has 1,165 members, including: 1 Head of Delegation; 3 Deputy Heads of Delegation; 69 medical officers and staff; 44 team leaders; 16 experts; 191 coaches; 841 athletes competing in 47 sports and sub-sports. This is a well-prepared force, fully meeting professional criteria and ready to compete at the Games.
Based on professional assessment and preparation results, the Vietnamese Sports Delegation aims to win from 91 to 110 gold medals, striving to maintain its position in the leading group of Southeast Asia, while making efforts to protect its achievements in both the men's and women's football teams.
The Vietnamese Sports Delegation will participate in athletics, gymnastics, aerobics, cycling, fencing, wrestling, triathlon, weightlifting, petanque, chess, shooting, archery, figure skating, speed skating, bowling, sport climbing, teqball, tug of war, and e-sports.
Martial arts include karate, judo, taekwondo, pencak silat, muay Thai, ju-jitsu, kickboxing, boxing, wushu, mixed martial arts (MMA).
Ball sports include soccer, basketball, volleyball, tennis, table tennis, handball, baseball, golf, badminton, and sepak takraw.
Water sports include swimming, diving, traditional boat racing, sailing, canoeing, rowing, and jet skiing.
Among these, the sports that will be represented in the form of socialization include skateboarding, ice skating, bowling, MMA (Mixed Martial Arts), baseball, sport climbing, teqball, E-Sports, tug of war, jetski (jet skiing). The sports outside this group will be the main force of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation aiming to achieve the highest results.
Currently, the teams have reported specific targets for winning gold medals. In particular, many sports have set high targets such as: athletics aiming for 12 gold medals, shooting for 7 gold medals, rowing for 8 gold medals, wrestling for 6 gold medals...
