Efforts to sustainably reduce poverty in the mountainous province of Cao Bang

According to the report of the People's Committee of Cao Bang province, from 2021 to now, the locality has synchronously deployed many solutions to effectively implement the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction for the period 2021-2025. With 200 essential infrastructure works, maintaining and repairing more than 170 works serving people's lives, promoting socio -economic development in disadvantaged areas. Propaganda and dissemination of poverty reduction policies have been focused on with 501 conferences, attracting nearly 25,000 attendees; distributing more than 30,000 leaflets and building a diverse communication system, thereby creating clear changes in poverty reduction work in the locality.

Based on the review and reality in each locality, Cao Bang has supported the construction of houses for 10,521 poor households. The investigation, review and assessment of poor and near-poor households were seriously implemented through 112 conferences with nearly 12,000 people....

In addition to local support, Cao Bang Women's Union at all levels joined hands to help eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in the area.

Thanks to the drastic participation and synchronous solutions, poverty reduction work in Cao Bang has achieved many remarkable results. It is estimated that by the end of 2025, the poverty rate in the whole province will decrease by about 21.22%, an average annual decrease of over 4.2%. This is an impressive figure, exceeding the minimum requirement according to the new multidimensional poverty standard.

Promote the cultivation of black jelly - a precious product, unique to the locality.

Talking to reporters, Ms. Vi Thi Nhung, in Binh Tam hamlet, Thanh Long commune, shared: “In the past, my family faced many difficulties, hardships, and an unstable economy, mainly relying on the harvest, but the harsh weather did not allow us to have enough to eat. With the support and help of local authorities and organizations, my family was able to borrow money from the bank, participate in training courses on livestock farming techniques, and participate in tobacco growing models, so I chose a livestock farming model combined with crop farming and providing services suitable for my family. Up to now, my family has 10 cows, 3 breeding sows, over 20 commercial pigs and nearly 100 poultry of all kinds. I also grow tobacco and sell fertilizer to serve people in the area. Each year, my income is over 200 million VND, so our life has become better, escaping poverty.”

Mr. Le Hai Hoa, Chairman of Cao Bang Provincial People's Committee, said that sustainable poverty reduction continues to be a key task in 2025 and the following years. To achieve this goal, all levels, sectors and localities must enhance their sense of responsibility, dare to think, dare to do, dare to take responsibility in implementing the program; at the same time, effectively use resources from the Central and local levels. Cao Bang will focus on encouraging people to participate in agricultural production models according to value chains, associated with stable consumption of agricultural products, contributing to sustainable income improvement. Vocational training, transfer of technical advances and application of science and technology in production will continue to be key solutions to shorten the development gap between regions, gradually realizing the goal of "leaving no one behind".
