People's Artist Thu Huyen becomes the new Director of Hanoi Cheo Theater

People's Artist Thu Huyen, who is prominent in the Cheo world with the role of Thi Mau in the classic Cheo play "Quan Am Thi Kinh", has been officially appointed as Director of the Hanoi Cheo Theatre. Meritorious Artist Quoc Phong has been appointed as Deputy Director of the Theatre.

According to the Hanoi Cheo Theatre, at the conference announcing the decision on personnel work held on September 11, Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports Bach Lien Huong presented the decision to appoint the position of Director of the Hanoi Cheo Theatre to People's Artist Thu Huyen. Meritorious Artist of National Defense - Head of Group 1, holds the position of Deputy Director of the Hanoi Cheo Theatre.

People's Artist Thu Huyen was born in 1975 in Hanoi. During a children's singing competition, Thu Huyen coincidentally met musician Van Hiep of the Hanoi Cheo Theatre, was introduced to take the exam and was accepted into the intermediate Cheo program of the Hanoi Cheo Theatre.

At the age of 16, Thu Huyen participated in the Hanoi Young Stage Talent Competition with the role of Thi Mau in the ancient Cheo play Quan Am Thi Kinh. The role left a deep impression, helping the female artist receive a special award. In 1998, also with the role of Thi Mau, Thu Huyen won first prize in the National Young Stage Talent Competition.

In addition to the role of Thi Mau, Cheo artist Thu Huyen has been successful with many other roles such as Thi Phuong in the play “Truong Vien”, Miss Son in the play of the same name, Hoan Thu in the play “Kieu”, and Sita in the play of the same name. For her contributions to traditional Cheo art, at the age of 32, Thu Huyen was specially awarded the title of Meritorious Artist.

In 2017, Meritorious Artist Thu Huyen took on the position of Deputy Director of Hanoi Cheo Theatre. In August 2022, the female artist was assigned the position of Deputy Director in charge of Hanoi Cheo Theatre, replacing People's Artist Quoc Anh, who retired. Thu Huyen received the title of People's Artist in early 2024.

Meritorious Artist Quoc Phong is one of the talented artists of the capital's Cheo stage. After graduating from Thai Binh College of Culture and Arts in 2008, Quoc Phong joined the Hanoi Cheo Theatre and quickly made his name known with the Gold Medal for the role of Quang Trung in the play "Princess Ngoc Han" at the National Cheo Festival in 2009.

In the following years, he continuously achieved success with a series of impressive roles: Thi Sach in “Princess Me Linh”, Quang in “White Bird in the Night”, Quoc Hao in “The Dang Concubine”, General Vu in “Kieu Loan”, Tran Thong in “Loyal Virgin”. Recently, Meritorious Artist Quoc Phong left a strong impression with the role of Chi Pheo in the play “The Kite of Vu Dai Village”.

He has won 5 Gold Medals at the National Cheo Festivals and Performances in the years: 2009, 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2019.

He is also a popular cheo singer on digital platforms. Many of his albums and videos are “hot” on online music channels.
