Gathering nearly 400 players, promising top matches
The 12th Hanoi Open Club Table Tennis Tournament, Hanoi Moi Newspaper Cup - 2025 takes place from November 7 to 9, 2025 at Cau Giay Stadium (No. 35, Tran Quy Kien Street, Cau Giay District, Hanoi), with the participation of 80 units and nearly 400 athletes.

Speaking at the press conference, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Hanoi Moi Newspaper Lai Ba Ha, representative of the Organizing Committee, said: The Hanoi Moi Newspaper Cup Table Tennis Tournament is an annual tournament organized by Hanoi Moi Newspaper. This is an important event for the capital's sports in general and Hanoi table tennis in particular. This year's tournament attracted nearly 400 professional and amateur athletes from 80 units, including: Hanoi, People's Public Security - T&T, Vinh Long, Ho Chi Minh City, Lam Dong, Da Nang, Nghe An, Hung Yen, Phu Tho, Thai Nguyen, Quang Ninh, Thanh Hoa, Bac Ninh, Hai Phong...
Athletes compete in 12 categories, including: Men's singles with leaders, advanced men's team, amateur men's team, advanced men's singles, amateur men's doubles from 45 years old and above, amateur men's singles under 45 years old, women's singles from 45 years old and above, women's singles under 45 years old, men's doubles with leaders, men's doubles with women over 45 years old, men's doubles with women under 45 years old and women's doubles over 45 years old. Notably, this year's season has seen dozens more teams participating in the amateur men's team category compared to last season. The organizers had to stop registration a month before the tournament started. This also shows the tournament's appeal to table tennis lovers in the capital.

To ensure the competition progress, each athlete can only participate in a maximum of 2 events. Notably, of the 12 events, the event that attracts the most athletes is the amateur men's team, including 48 teams participating in the amateur team event and 14 teams participating in the advanced team event. The Organizing Committee divided the competition into 16 groups for amateur team events and 4 groups for advanced team events, selecting the best teams from each group to enter the knockout round.

Ready for an explosive season
Answering reporters' questions at the press conference, Deputy Secretary General of the Hanoi Table Tennis Federation Dang Ngoc Hai said that based on the number of teams and the forecast number of matches (nearly 1,000 matches), the Organizing Committee has decided to organize 8 competition sessions (morning, afternoon, evening), from November 7 to 9, 2025. The closing ceremony will take place on the afternoon of November 9, 2025. The Organizing Committee will award cups, flags, bonuses, and medals to the teams, pairs, and individuals who won first, second, and third prizes in the categories. The total prize value is more than 160 million VND (an increase of 10% compared to the previous season). The new feature of this year's tournament is that the Organizing Committee applies the new Olympic format (1 doubles match, 4 singles matches) for the men's team event, instead of the previous Swaythling format (5 singles matches). This is a change to increase the attractiveness and attract athletes to participate.

Deputy Head of Table Tennis Department - Hanoi Sports Training and Competition Center Ngo Thu Thuy said, with a large number of athletes competing, equal to a national tournament, the Organizing Committee has mobilized more than 40 national-level referees to conduct, ensuring professional quality. Along with that, due to the increased number of athletes, the Organizing Committee arranged 14 competition tables throughout the tournament.
“We have planned a reasonable competition program: on November 7 and 8, the advanced team and amateur team events will end; and on November 9, the semi-finals and finals of the doubles (men's and women's), singles (men's and women's), advanced and leadership categories will take place... We will ensure that the tournament will not be prolonged,” said Ms. Ngo Thu Thuy.
Referee To Duc Hoa added that in this year's tournament, national players such as Nguyen Duc Tuan, Dinh Anh Hoang, Le Dinh Duc, Nguyen Khoa Dieu Khanh... all registered to participate, however, because the whole team has a long training schedule in China to prepare for the 33rd SEA Games (December 2025), they cannot participate. Units such as Hanoi, People's Public Security - T&T, Army, Hai Phong ... all sent youth teams to participate.
This year's tournament also has the participation of many former national players such as Vu Thi Noel En, Nguyen Bich Ngoc, Nguyen Thi Mai, Nguyen Tuan Quynh, Vu Quang Hien, and current top Vietnamese table tennis players such as Nguyen Dang Hiep, Bui The Nghia, Vu Manh Huy, Nguyen Nhu Phong, Tran Manh Cuong, Nguyen Hoang Lam, Ta Hong Khanh, Le Van Duc, Lam Thu Cuc, Hoang Tra My, Tran Dieu Linh, Vu Hoai Thanh... promising to bring attractive matches with high professional quality.

All equipment such as tables, mats, competition balls... for the tournament are from the Double Fish brand, meeting the standards of the Vietnam Table Tennis Federation, ensuring to help athletes compete in the best conditions.

Also at the press conference, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Hanoi Moi Newspaper Lai Ba Ha affirmed that, up to this point, the preparations for the tournament have been completed. The Organizing Committee has coordinated with relevant units in security, medical work..., ensuring the best conditions for athletes, coaches, referees and fans participating in the tournament. All are determined to make the tournament exciting, attractive and successful.
