Some Israeli officials told the media that the deal could be signed soon, while others urged caution.
While mediators expressed optimism that a deal was close, there were still hurdles to overcome. News outlets also revealed initial details of the deal being discussed.
According to Reuters , on the morning of January 13, an anonymous official said that Doha had presented the final draft to both sides after a breakthrough in negotiations between the Israeli representative team, the Qatari Prime Minister , and the Middle East envoy of US President-elect Donald Trump, Mr. Steve Witkoff.
However, an Israeli official later told Reuters that the country had not yet received the draft from Qatar. In contrast, Israel's Channel 12 television reported later that day that Israel had received the draft overnight and had agreed to its content in principle. The draft was also approved by Hamas leaders abroad, but it still awaits a final decision from Muhammad Sinwar, Hamas' leader in Gaza.
Qatari mediators pressured Hamas to agree to the deal, while Donald Trump's special envoy was involved in pushing the process toward Israel, AP sources said.
Although information is still mixed, several unnamed Israeli officials confirmed to Channels 12 and 13 that the deal is essentially complete, pending final approval from Hamas.
