Responding to NBC News , the US President said he was willing to extend the June 19 deadline for investors to complete a complex deal to maintain TikTok's operations in the US, thereby avoiding a national ban on the short video app.

"I want to see it done," Trump said. Explaining this, the head of the White House revealed that he was "fascinated" by TikTok after the platform helped him attract young voters in the 2024 presidential election. "TikTok is very interesting and it will be protected," President Donald Trump added.

Earlier in April, Mr. Trump signed an executive order extending the deadline by 75 days to work out the details of a potential deal.

By 2024, TikTok's parent company, ByteDance, must divest or face a ban in the US, according to a US government law.

The US is concerned that TikTok’s ownership by ByteDance could make it a tool for the Chinese government to conduct influence operations and collect data on US citizens. The law originally required ByteDance to sell TikTok to another company by January 20, but Mr. Trump has twice extended the deadline.

Private equity firm Blackstone is among the frontrunners considering a minority stake in TikTok's U.S. business.

If a deal is reached, Blackstone would join ByteDance's existing non-Chinese shareholders, led by Susquehanna International Group and General Atlantic.
