Launching the movement of innovation, digital transformation and "Digital literacy" in the entire banking industry

NDO - On May 27, in Hanoi, the State Bank of Vietnam held a conference to launch the movement "The whole country competes in innovation and digital transformation" and "Digital literacy" of the banking sector in conjunction with Resolution 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo.

Speaking at the opening of the Conference, Deputy Governor of the State Bank Pham Tien Dung affirmed that this is a very important activity in implementing Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo on science, technology development, innovation and national digital transformation.

“Today’s conference is held in the context where science and technology, innovation and digital transformation are not only the driving force, but have become the foundation for development in the 21st century,” Deputy Governor Pham Tien Dung stated.

According to a report by the World Bank (WB), by 2024, the digital economy will account for 15% of the global GDP, equivalent to 16,000 billion USD. Many countries have identified the digital economy as a core component of their national strategies.

In the context of the world facing unpredictable fluctuations such as trade wars, the rise of protectionism, epidemics, economic crises, energy security and climate change, scientific and technological development, innovation and digital transformation are no longer options, but vital requirements to adapt, survive and thrive.

Realizing Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo, implementing Decision No. 923/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister and Plan No. 01-KH/BCĐTW of the Central Steering Committee on Science and Technology Development, Innovation and Digital Transformation, the State Bank launched two emulation movements "The whole country competes in innovation and digital transformation" and the movement "Digital literacy for the masses" in the entire banking sector.

“This is a call and call for the entire banking industry to constantly innovate, apply technology and digital transformation to support sustainable economic development in the new era,” the Deputy Governor emphasized.

At the Conference, the presentations focused on the contents related to the implementation of tasks in the "Digital Literacy for All" movement. Accordingly, representatives of credit institutions shared many typical models and initiatives applying digital technology that can be replicated; shared experiences, the journey of spreading and building a digital culture, a culture of innovation and a culture of lifelong learning; shared experiences and solutions to improve digital capacity for human resources in the banking industry.

At the same time, representatives of credit institutions proposed specific actions and recommendations to the State Bank so that science and technology, innovation and digital transformation can be widely applied and bring practical results to the entire industry.

Governor of the State Bank Nguyen Thi Hong emphasized that, thoroughly grasping the content and spirit of Resolution No. 57 and the direction of the Government and the Prime Minister, with the spirit of "strong, drastic, synchronous and consistent innovation", on March 5, 2025, the State Bank issued Decision No. 1364 on the Banking Industry's Plan to implement Resolution 57 and Resolution No. 03 of the Government. The Standing Committee of the Party Committee and the State Bank's Board of Directors have established a Steering Committee and a working group for the Banking Industry on science and technology development, innovation, digital transformation and Project 06, and at the same time identified and developed a plan, specific and clear groups of issues, ensuring that the Plan is consistent with the Government's plan and the industry's development plan.

The key tasks of the banking sector include: Raising awareness, renewing thinking; Perfecting institutions and policies; Increasing investment, perfecting infrastructure; Developing and making good use of talents and high-quality human resources; Promoting digital transformation, improving management efficiency; Promoting science, technology, innovation activities; Strengthening international cooperation.

"The tasks in the Plan have been specifically assigned to units throughout the banking industry for implementation," said Governor Nguyen Thi Hong.

Quick statistics from a number of commercial banks also show that banks have moved very quickly and strongly in innovation and digital transformation activities.

From 2024 to present, many banks have developed and implemented a large number of initiatives to improve operational processes and digital transformation, some banks have more than 100 initiatives/year, typically: BIDV (299 digital initiatives/total 729 initiatives/year); TPBank (135 digital initiatives/150 initiatives); Agribank (120 digital initiatives); VIB (101 initiatives); Vietinbank (100 digital initiatives); Shinhan Bank Vietnam (69/166 initiatives); Vietcombank (98 initiatives)...

At the same time, the number of bank staff trained in digital transformation, technology, and artificial intelligence from 2022 to May 15 also recorded very impressive numbers: typically Vietinbank (90,825 courses); MB Bank (55,402 courses); Techcombank (50,942 courses); Agribank (47,148 courses); BIDV (38,985 courses); VIB (35,627 courses) ...
